Kodansha has released several brilliant manga sources in the past, including the likes of Attack on Titan and Seven Deadly Sins. A number of Kodansha-based manga have received an anime adaptation and flourished in popularity. Next up in line to get an adaptation is Blue Lock, a manga described appropriately as a sports thriller. Blue Lock has been quite a topic of hustle among fans who read the source as well as among sports anime enthusiasts.
The source has been praised widely by a huge population, making the announcement of an anime adaptation very exciting. A lot of fans are hyped up about the anime. However, this hype just rose several times higher as the Blue Lock anime release date, as well as a new character PV, gets released. Things are looking rather good for the anime as the anticipation is getting more intense.
Blue Lock is a manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Kodansha USA published the manga in English as well under the Shōnen Magazine Comics imprint. In Japan, the manga is serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Magazine. It was launched in August 2028 and has released 17 volumes since, to date. The manga has sold several copies to date, and its count rose to up to 3 million copies in January 2021. Its plot, despite being of the sports genre, has an intense aura around it, making it equally enjoyable for thriller lovers.
With the Blue Lock anime release date announced, here is everything we know about the anime adaptation so far.
The story of Blue Lock is set in 2018 Japan. After ranking 16th in the FIFA World Cup, the Japanese Football Union calls in Ego Jinpachi, a soccer enigma. To win the World Cup, Jinpachi has a vision and a plan for that. However, he believes that Japanese players do not have the wildness and the hunger to win. To awaken such instincts, Jinpachi puts forward the Blue Lock initiative. The Blue Lock is a facility where Japan’s best strikers from several high schools have been invited to compete against each other. The one who wins will become the national team’s striker. However, those who lose will be banned from ever joining the team.
A particular candidate selected to participate in the Blue Lock is Yoichi Isagi, a striker who blames himself for the loss of his high school soccer team. He joins the Blue Lock hoping to overcome his doubts and become Japan’s best striker. With the best coming in from various parts of Japan, things will not be as easy as it sounds for Yoichi. With the tough conditions brought forward by The Blue Lock, who would be the last one standing?
