Ben Affleck is well known for his roles in political and crime thrillers like Argo and The Town. However, nine years ago, he starred in an action-packed film that is now getting a sequel. Affleck is returning as Christian Wolff in The Accountant 2, alongside Jon Bernthal and J.K. Simmons. Fans can look forward to watching the sequel in theaters on April 25.
The first Accountant movie received mixed reviews, with a 52% critic score but a strong 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the divided opinions, the film performed well, earning over $150 million at the box office. The sequel is now set to continue the story, but this might not be the last film in the series.
In a recent report from Vanity Fair, new images from The Accountant 2 were released, along with statements from Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor about a possible third film.
O’Connor shared his thoughts on another sequel, saying, “I have a lot of thoughts about what to do with the third. I’ve been thinking about it for a lot of years.”
Affleck also expressed his views, explaining, “I’m keenly aware of the fact that you kind of have to earn another movie. The worst pitfall is to store a bunch of your good ideas for the next installment. If you don’t create an interest demand the first time out there, you’re just going to be playing that to an empty house.”

The Changing Film Industry and the Success of Sequels
Years ago, studios would approve sequels before the first film even premiered if they had confidence in a project. However, with streaming and digital platforms dominating the entertainment industry, predicting a movie’s success has become more difficult.
This year has already been unpredictable for action sequels. For example, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which brought back Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson, received better reviews than the original but still made less money at the box office. Despite this, Lionsgate decided to move forward with a third film in that franchise.
Budget details for The Accountant 2 have not been revealed yet. However, the first movie had a budget of $44 million, meaning the sequel will need to earn well over $100 million if it costs more to produce.
What’s Next for Ben Affleck?
Even if The Accountant 3 does not happen, Ben Affleck has many exciting projects ahead. He is set to reunite with Matt Damon for RIP, a police procedural directed by Joe Carnahan. The film is currently in post-production.
Affleck has also been attached to direct and star in Witness for the Prosecution, but there have been no major updates on the project in recent years. Recently, he confirmed his involvement in Animals, an action thriller that originally had Matt Damon in the lead role.
Damon had to step away due to his commitment to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey, and now Gillian Anderson will star alongside Affleck.
Fans can watch The Accountant 2 in theaters on April 25. Stay tuned for updates and check out The Accountant on Max before the sequel arrives!
