A mystery thriller novel won hearts and compelled the readers to change their perspective on Happiness. This novel was none other than Battle for Happiness by Joo Young-ha.
In 2023, this masterpiece was turned into a South Korean Television series that premiered on 31 May 2023. This series has a total of 16 episodes, out of which eight have already been released.
The K-drama is studded with stars like Lee El, Jin Seo Yun, Cha Ye Ryun, Woo Jeong Won, and Park Hyo Joo in the lead roles. Besides, the director Kim Yoon-Cheol and the supporting actors add more charisma to the series.
Plot Synopsis
Happiness comes at a cost, but is it necessarily at the cost of others’ Happiness? Battle for Happiness is one such drama that will strike you with this question from time to time.
The story of this K-drama is about three high-class and competitive mothers. These women are Oh Yu Jin, Song Jung Ah, and Kim Na Young. They pretend to be friends but have a battle over social media like the commoners to prove their Happiness above all.
Only a few likes are enough to determine Happiness for them. In the world of perfection, they create in their heads; they hide their flaws.
This vague quest for supremacy takes a higher step when one from the group is murdered, and all others are on the radar of suspicion.
Watching them closely is another single mom far from social media battles, Hwang-Ji Ye. Somehow, the ambitious bank assistant manager Jang Mi-Ho also gets involved in the mystery of the cyber battle.
All of them try to find their own Happiness by destroying the others. They try to drag each other down, reveal secrets, endure the hurt, and try to find their true selves.

Story Until Now
So far, episode eight has been released, and the drama progresses to its main plot. The intriguing mystery has begun to unfold.
The episode starts with Jang Mi-Ho’s office. She gets a performance review, and before she can get a promotion, an anonymous complaint comes to ruin her image.
It even mentions Jang’s attempts to seduce her stepfather, to which she disagrees. Back at home, Ji Yul and Ha Yul want to play, so Jang calls Jin Ye, who ignores her and lies.
She takes the kids to the park, and upon returning, a neighbor complains about the noise. Jang is confused by the familiar appearance of the man, and before she can figure it out, he attacks her.
Later, Na Young offers to be friends with Jang to take on Jung together. In return, she wants pictures of her husband from the USB drive. Jang calls Do-mum to help her find the truth.
Jang and Jung Ah also have a confrontation about Yu Jin’s murder. With a lot going on, one of the major revelations is that Jung Ah’s brother is a drug addict.
He also gets into an accident because of them. Jung Ah has a breakdown as all her evil plans are coming to light, and even her reputation is at stake.
Moving towards the end of the episode, Na Young and Jang are seen discussing Yu Jin’s death. Young does not feel Jung Ah has murdered Jin. Meanwhile, the police arrive to arrest Jang for attempt-to-murder.
A video shows that Yu Jin’s husband claims that Jang and Yu Jin had plans to murder him. The episode ends, and the next one will probably focus on Jang’s interrogation and Yu Jin’s husband.
