Prime Video has officially revealed one of the biggest surprises surrounding Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, announcing that House of the Dragon actor Matthew Needham will voice The Joker in the upcoming season. The casting news was revealed during the series’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where fans also received an early screening of the season premiere and fresh details about what lies ahead for Gotham’s Dark Knight.
The announcement adds even more anticipation to the return of the critically acclaimed animated noir series from Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves. With all ten episodes arriving on Prime Video on July 31, Season 2 promises to expand its darker reimagining of Batman’s early years while finally introducing one of his most iconic enemies.

The Comic-Con panel featured executive producers James Tucker and Geoffrey Thorne, alongside cast members Hamish Linklater, Jamie Chung, and Matthew Needham. Needham is widely recognized for portraying Larys Strong in HBO’s House of the Dragon, making his casting as The Joker one of the season’s most significant additions. The Comic-Con presentation concluded with another surprise as Amazon Luna revealed Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles, a companion game launching on July 31 alongside the new season. The game will be available for Prime members and Luna subscribers across multiple regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and several other European markets.
