Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold an estimated 23.2 million copies worldwide, generating more than $1.2 billion in revenue, according to market research firm Alinea Analytics. The figures highlight the enduring commercial success of Larian Studios’ role-playing game, which won Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2023 and continues to maintain a substantial player base more than three years after its full release.
The estimates were published by Alinea Analytics in its report, “How well have past GOTY winners sold?”. The report compares the sales and revenue performance of recent Game of the Year winners, including Elden Ring, Astro Bot, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The $1.2 billion milestone puts Baldur’s Gate 3 among the most commercially successful modern RPGs. However, the figures are third-party estimates rather than official revenue disclosures from Larian Studios.
STEAM ACCOUNTS FOR MORE THAN 80% OF BALDUR’S GATE 3 SALES
According to Alinea Analytics, Steam accounts for approximately 18.7 million of the game’s estimated 23.2 million copies sold, representing 80.6% of its total sales. PlayStation 5 follows with around 2.9 million copies, or 12.7%, while Xbox accounts for approximately 1.6 million copies, equivalent to 6.8%.
The PC version had a head start, with around 1.3 million Steam players purchasing the game before its full 1.0 release. The PlayStation 5 version launched roughly a month after the PC release, while the Xbox version arrived in December 2023 following additional development work on local co-op functionality for Xbox Series S.
These platform figures underline Steam’s importance to the RPG’s commercial performance. While console versions expanded the game’s reach, PC remains its largest sales market by a considerable margin.

The game’s popularity extends beyond its sales figures. Alinea Analytics estimates that Baldur’s Gate 3 has maintained at least 2 million monthly active users across platforms, reaching approximately 2.2 million monthly players in the latest period covered by its report. The game also reportedly attracts between 280,000 and 400,000 players daily.
Long-term engagement is another notable part of its success. According to the estimates, nearly 200,000 Steam players have spent more than 500 hours in the RPG, representing approximately 1% of its Steam player base.
Larian Studios has also benefited from renewed interest in its back catalogue following the announcement of its next Divinity game. In January 2026, CEO Swen Vincke told fans on X that sales of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2 had been “incredible” since the announcement.
With an estimated $1.2 billion in revenue and millions of active players, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to demonstrate the lasting appeal of story-driven RPGs built around player choice, tactical combat, and branching narratives.
