Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition has become a notable commercial success on Nintendo Switch 2, according to CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski. The executive says the game briefly held the position of the console’s best-selling third-party title after launch and even outsold several Nintendo-published games during that period.
Nowakowski also confirmed that CD Projekt Red has already recovered its investment in the Switch 2 version and is now profitable on the release. He did not provide a specific sales figure, but said the game continues to sell more than a year after its debut.
Cyberpunk 2077 turned the Switch 2 gamble into a profitable release
Speaking with The Game Business, Nowakowski explained that CD Projekt Red was unsure what to expect from Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo’s new hardware. The game launched alongside Switch 2 in June 2025, making it the first time the studio had released one of its games as a launch title for a new Nintendo platform.
“We were the best-selling third-party game on Switch 2 for a while,”
Nowakowski said, adding that Cyberpunk 2077 was also
“outselling quite a few Nintendo games”
except Mario Kart. He emphasized that the result was particularly encouraging because Switch 2 was still building its install base when the game arrived.

The executive said CD Projekt Red was “very happy” with the sales performance and confirmed that the release had moved beyond breaking even. “Made money on it, broke even. We’re in the positive,” Nowakowski said, while noting that the studio never expected Switch 2 sales to match the scale of its PC business.
CD Projekt Red has also received positive feedback from Nintendo regarding how Cyberpunk 2077 performs on the hardware and makes use of Switch 2-specific features. The company previously said the game continued to rank among the platform’s best-selling third-party titles.
The successful launch could also strengthen CD Projekt Red’s commitment to Nintendo hardware. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is the studio’s next major release for Switch 2, giving the company another opportunity to build on Cyberpunk 2077’s performance.
