Austin “Austin” Meadows is looking beyond his own competitive career as he prepares to host a new Counter-Strike LAN event in November. Following Elusive’s elimination from FRAG Midwest: St. Louis, Austin spoke with Dust2.us about his changing roster, his upcoming event and the importance of creating more opportunities for North American Counter-Strike players and fans.
The LAN has reportedly been in development for roughly eight to 12 months, with Austin saying the project has become one of his most meaningful efforts within the scene. Tickets also received an encouraging early response, with 10 selling within the first hour.
Austin Wants More LAN Opportunities for North American Counter-Strike
Austin’s plans for the event are closely tied to his own experiences attending LAN tournaments. He explained to Dust2.us that FRAG has played a major role in his involvement with competitive Counter-Strike, making the tournament organizer an essential partner for his first independently hosted event.
The November LAN will be held at a hotel venue near Chicago, creating an environment where players and attendees can spend more time together rather than simply arriving for matches and immediately leaving. Austin believes that setup could be particularly useful for newcomers trying to make connections within the competitive scene.
The event will also provide opportunities for North American teams to earn valuable VRS ranking points. Austin argued that these regional benefits are more important to him than creating another tournament primarily designed around international teams chasing Major qualification.
His larger goal is to rebuild interest in domestic Counter-Strike by giving fans more chances to watch recognizable North American teams compete in person. Teams such as M80, NRG, Legacy and SportsBetExpert rarely receive the same LAN exposure that North American teams once enjoyed during the region’s stronger Counter-Strike era.
Austin believes creators and community figures have a responsibility to change that. “It’s our responsibility as creators to breathe life into CS again,” he told Dust2.us. He added that improving North American Counter-Strike requires everyone in the region to contribute, with the ultimate objective being to create more fans and opportunities.
The upcoming event is also influenced by Austin’s own experience watching other community-led LANs. He said the success of fl0m’s LAN helped convince him that he could organize an event of his own, although he wanted his tournament to retain the more traditional feel associated with FRAG events.
Meanwhile, Elusive’s competitive lineup is undergoing changes. Austin confirmed that sayN and Msaia are leaving, leaving the future core uncertain, although he intends to continue competing alongside Jonji and FRIZZY.
Elusive’s run at FRAG Midwest: St. Louis ultimately ended after a lower-bracket defeat to SportsBetExpert, leaving the team in 9th-12th place. Austin’s attention now turns toward November, when his LAN will attempt to give North American Counter-Strike another local stage.
