Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has come under renewed scrutiny after PC players reported being unable to play the game during a recent Ubisoft Connect outage, even though the title includes an offline mode.
Ubisoft Connect’s servers went offline for roughly an hour over the weekend. During that time, many players discovered that Black Flag Resynced could not be launched on PC despite their copies having been previously authenticated.
Players question how the offline mode works
Ubisoft Connect serves as both a launcher and DRM platform for Ubisoft’s PC games. Normally, players only need an internet connection once to verify ownership before using the game’s offline mode.
However, following the outage, numerous users took to Steam Forums and Reddit to report that the offline mode also stopped functioning. A Reddit discussion about the issue quickly gained more than 15,000 upvotes, with many players claiming they had experienced similar problems with previous Ubisoft releases.

As of publication, Ubisoft has not publicly addressed the reported issue on its official social media channels or responded to the community discussions.
The server outage marks another challenge for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which previously faced criticism over its extensive cosmetic microtransactions at launch. Although those concerns initially affected the game’s Steam user reviews, player sentiment has since improved following updates and bug fixes.
Despite this latest issue, the remake has otherwise enjoyed a strong launch and has generally been praised for modernizing the beloved pirate adventure while remaining faithful to the original game.
