The Boys Season 4 ended with many questions. Fans are curious about Soldier Boy’s return, The Boys’ fate, and Butcher’s next steps. However, another big cliffhanger is Ashley Barrett’s decision to inject herself with Compound V.
Although we don’t immediately see the full results, her transformation looks quite frightening. While her new powers are unknown, her clothing in Season 4 might have hinted at what’s coming.
Ashley has always dressed in eye-catching outfits. Her pantsuits, in colors like bright red and flame print, always stand out. But there is a specific style in her wardrobe that might hint at more than just fashion.
This idea started back in the Season 3 finale when Homelander made Ashley remove her wig, revealing she had trichotillomania, a condition where she pulled out her hair. In that episode, she wore a zebra print dress.
‘The Boys’ Season 4: The Answers Are in Ashley’s Clothes
This outfit not only showed her position at Vought as prey but also marked her first real act of defiance against Homelander. She deleted a video proving that Queen Maeve was still alive.
Fast forward to Season 4, Ashley enters the finale looking panicked and scared for her life at Vought. Despite her fear, her flashy black and gold cheetah print outfit suggests she might gain more power. She breaks into Homelander’s suite and injects herself with Compound V.
Her wig falls off, and her head changes shape as the Compound V affects her. Unlike her zebra print dress, her new outfit resembles a fierce predator, hinting that she might become very powerful.
Ashley’s story this season shows her growing from prey to predator. Early in Season 4, she considers leaving Vought but decides to stay after seeing Homelander kill a crime analyst. She shreds her resume and continues working at Vought, similar to how she tried to fit in with her predator, Homelander, in Season 3.
Ashley expresses her hatred for Homelander with small acts of rebellion, like leaving a floater in his bathroom. She also forms a secret alliance with A-Train, who reveals the identity of a mole in Vought. Ashley frames an anchor, leading to his death. Even though she doesn’t directly work with The Boys, she is committed to her resistance plan.
When A-Train offers her a chance to escape, Ashley declines. She looks at an old photo of herself, reflecting on how much she has changed. Her decision to stay shows her strength.
As Homelander sends The Deep to find her, Ashley raids his Compound V stash. Her transformation seems more severe than usual, as it alters her appearance. We’ll have to wait until next season to see her full transformation.
It will be interesting to see what powers she gains and whether she will join The Boys to fight Homelander. Whatever happens, it looks like Ashley will soon be a top player in the series.
The Boys Season 4 is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
