Argylle, directed by Matthew Vaughn, one of the phenomenal directors of spy movies in the industry, is all set to be released in theatres on February 2, 2024. Vaughn has always delivered movies that included violence, bloodshed and thrilling action.
Argylle, which is a spy thriller coming on the big screen with Apple Studios, is going to be a movie different from Vaughn’s typical genre of full-violence and action film as it is going to be rated PG-13.
It is going to be Matthew’s first ever PG-13 rating movie to be released in theatres since his spy film X-Men: First Class in 2011. After that, he made a notable move towards R-rated movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and The King’s Man, which had violence and bloodshed. It seems like Vaughn wanted to try out his type.
Why is Argylle a PG-13 movie?
This sudden shift from R-rated movies to PG-13 movies by Matthew is suspicious and something unexpected, but the director had already stated in an interview during October that he wanted Argylle to be a spy movie that would also be considered a date movie. Vaughn wanted Argylle to be a movie that would have the essence of a spy movie as well as a date movie.
The reason behind the making of a movie like “Argylle” is the demand of Vaughn’s daughter for him to do a softer movie; he shared that “I thought I wanted to do a film about escapism, which would be a great date movie at the same time, and do a film that my girls would enjoy, because, you know, they didn’t really like Kingsman. They wanted me to do a softer film; I mean, it’ll still have some moments in it. “
His daughter’s demand was not the only thing; in the interview, he also shared on stage the moment from the lockdown phase: “The reason the movie came about is that I was watching, during the lockdown, movies as a family,” and that is when he realized he wants to make movies that his girls could watch normally.
What makes “Argylle” a different movie?
The movie is directed by Matthew Vaughn and structured on a script by Jason Fuchs. The production house of the movie includes Vaughn’s Marv Studios, Cloudy Productions, Fuchs, David Reid, and Adam Bohling. Apple has partnered with Universal Pictures for this project to distribute the film in theatres.
Argylle is going to be released on February 2, 2024, in theaters. The movie follows the solitary author of a best-selling spy novel series, Elly Conway, who finds her bliss in staying at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie.
Her fictional books will change the plot of the storyline as they center on the secrets of Agent Argylle and his mission of unveiling a global spy syndicate. Later on, the book will mirror the actions of a real-life spy organization, and those quiet evenings of Conway will become a thing of the past.
Despite not being an R-rated movie that includes much violence like Vaughn’s other spy films, The thing that the film won’t be lacking is a stellar cast. The film stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly, Henry Cavill as Agent Argylle, Sam Rockwell as Aiden, Dua Lipa, John Cena, Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine O’Hara, and Ariana DeBose.
This film definitely holds a special place in Vaughn’s heart, and he really wanted to do a movie as his daughter’s daddy. Vaughn has cast his daughter’s cat “Chips” as Elly’s favorite companion, Alfie.
There’s also a different statement given for the cat in the poster of the film that says, “Once you know the secret, don’t let the cat out of the bag,” which means that the cat is going to be a suspicious character and will bring more thriller to the film by unveiling the secrets.
