Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley don’t seem eager to be married any time soon. Even though the couple is no longer featured on their reality show “Bravo,” ardent fans of the franchise find them to be very intriguing and of great interest. But many fans appear baffled and confused by the fact that the two continue to wear wedding bands despite not being married.
The Real Housewives of Orange County alum, 42, proposed to her partner, 47-year-old Slade Smiley, in April 2013. She is one of those few female celebrities who first proposed to her significant other. During RHOC Season 8, Gretchen prepared an extravagant proposal for her then-boyfriend Slade Smiley, and the two have been together ever since.
But the fact that they still haven’t tied the knot does not really seem to affect their love, and it is still going strong today. There are “no wedding updates” as of right now, the former reality star exclusively revealed to “Us Weekly” after almost a decade of them being together. Before getting engaged, the couple dated for an entirety of four years.
They have been together for 12 years now and engaged for eight of those. With this logic in mind, Rossi explained that they “don’t have to get married” because it already feels like they are married. She is, however, willing to host a huge party one day with all of her closest friends and family.

Gretchen’s response to why she hasn’t gotten married
When asked about why she hasn’t gotten married yet to Smiley, she said, “We got very preoccupied trying to have a baby, obviously, and that’s a very expensive process going through IVF for that many years,” while promoting her affiliation with LifeVac, she said. She says the entire ordeal is interesting because she would love to be married to Slade, and she actually calls him her husband.
The native from Michigan, who shares Smiley’s 22-month-old daughter, Skylar, pointed out that both of them wear rings and call each other husband and wife. It’s just that they don’t have a legal paper that says so.

She recently went on the “Knot Too Taboo” podcast and said that she wants to get married for more than just the lavish ceremony and the extravagant wedding dress.
The cohost of the podcast told Us that she is not too into the superficial aspect of marriage and does not feel that it is necessary to be married just to feel committed to someone. She went on to disclose that what they have is “such a beautiful, wonderful relationship,” and they are “so madly in love” that they fall more in love with each other every day.
According to her, the idea of marriage is not off the table for her, and she says that maybe they’ll get married one day, or maybe they’ll “be like Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and never get married.” She went on to explain that their relationship has a deeper meaning despite not being married to one another, which has allowed them to stay together for so long. There are other Hollywood couples who get married, and their relationship falls apart nonetheless.
Rossi’s life as a mother
Although Rossi said that having a daughter has brought them “closer together,” she hasn’t entirely ruled out getting married in a lavish ceremony. However, on the other hand, successful unmarried Hollywood couples have caused her to doubt whether it’s the best course of action for her and her family.

Her work with LifeVac
Rossi is keeping herself occupied as a mother as she entertains the notion of becoming a bride in the future. To help make parenting a little safer, the designer of Gretchen Christine has partnered with LifeVac, a choking prevention device.
50 to 70% of the time, the Heimlich maneuver doesn’t work even when performed by a professional, as stated by Rossi. “That’s really scary. And having this kind of backup resource at our fingertips can literally save a life.”

Is it true the couple actually had a date?
Yes, it is a hundred percent true. It is quite interesting to note that Gretchen and Slade had an initial wedding date scheduled on their calendar, but later a work obligation derailed their elaborate wedding plans.
Gretchen clarified that they actually had a date in mind for the ceremony. When asked about why they did not go ahead with the wedding planning if they had a date in mind, Gretchen replied that Slade had gotten booked to go down to film for The History Channel, and they ended up joking about how they “missed” their own wedding. She went on to explain that she does want to get married one day, but right now, it is not on her or Slade’s priority list.
