Active since 2002, the English rock band formed in Sheffield called Arctic Monkeys is a four-member group including lead vocalist and guitarist Alex Turner, one member at the keyboards, Jamie Cook, one handling the bass guitar and backing vocals for their songs, Nick O’Malley, and the last member, handling the drums, Matt Helders.
The group previously had a fifth member called Andy Nicholson, who was responsible for bass guitar and backing the vocals, but he left not very long after the band officially debuted. While the band has been putting out amazing music ever since its formation, the international spotlight reached them when they were well-settled in their career.
The band’s debut album, ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I Am Not,’ was the fastest-selling album, with many still calling it the greatest debut of all time. Every single one of the band’s albums has received critical acclaim, receiving praise for the poetic lyricism which the lead vocalist of the band manages to put into their songs.
It was the band’s fifth album, titled ‘AM,’ which was released in 2013 with ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ that got the band international fame and recognition. Since the band received global acclaim, they seemed to have shifted their focus from putting out genuine hard rock songs to bringing to fans softer, piano-backed tracks in their recent albums.
The band’s recent album titled ‘The Car’ was released in 2022 and was the band’s seventh album together. The band has been the recipient of around twenty NME awards, the Ivor Novello Award, one Mercury Prize, along with six Grammy Awards nominations.
It has been a little over twenty years since the childhood friends decided to come together to express their appreciation and passion for rock music, and they only continue to rise in success.
While the origin of the band’s name or the meaning behind it remains unclear, fans believe that the term ‘Arctic Monkeys’ is a play on the supposed insult ‘northern monkeys’, a derogatory term used for the people of northern England.
Arctic Monkeys Net Worth
Though it is not confirmed or official, the estimated net worth of the band, after working for approximately twenty years, stands at a whopping $13.59 million, though it would not be ridiculous if the actual worth was even higher.
We assume that the band’s major earnings are from their music video views, the number of which goes into tens of millions. Their official YouTube channel is where they upload all of their music videos and other behind-the-scenes videos, and with every few thousand views, the band earns money.
The band’s ridiculously high album sales are also another stream of income contributing to their worth. Their debut album was, after all, the fastest-selling album of the year. Considering the fact that the band has become a fan-favorite and receives global attention when releasing new music, it is safe to assume that their album sales must have only increased.
Not only this, but the band has toured a lot and is on even now. With the increase in their popularity, they not only have more fans attending the concerts, but the number of places they travel to and the number of shows they do in one place of it has increased. Performing several nights of sold-out shows only means a hefty revenue generation.
The band also gets invited to perform at different festivals taking place in different parts of the world. One such recent music festival was the Glastonbury Festival, where the band was invited to perform as the headlining event. All of this is not only a good advertisement for the band but also ends up adding so much to their annual income.
The band has gone from being a low-key indie rock band to becoming a global icon and representative of the genre. Their growth has been natural, gradual, and steady, but success has finally reached their doorstep, and they only seem to be becoming bigger and bigger.
