Choi Sung-bong is a Korean singer who got popular in Korea’s Got Talent. On June 20, he was found dead at his home and confirmed by the police. The dark cloud hangs over the K-Pop industry. The industry has been confronted with a series of tragic suicides of many young generation idols and artists. Now, Choi’s case is the new one.
As per the reports, the police found Choi’s death as a suicide based on the circumstances of his body being found at home. Seoul police found Choi’s dead body in the morning around 9.41 am. They also suspected the death of self-suicide according to the body they found at his home.
However, the singer has uploaded a brief note on his YouTube Channel. In that, he apologizes for all the controversies that he has created. Choi left the note on his YouTube channel in the community section. Where he started with the greetings and penned that the reason for writing this was to send a letter to his fans for the last time in his life. If they are able to see this(note) means he is already dead. He also apologizes sincerely for causing them a foolish mistake.

The Controversy of Choi Sung-bong
If we talk about Choi’s life, his childhood is quite pitiful and tragic. Choi Sung-bong was abandoned as a child at an Orphanage when he was only three years old. He faced physical abuse many times, and when he was five managed to escape from there and made his living in Daejeon. Choi took his lessons from Jeong So-park. He studied at Dae-Jeon Art High School. After his graduation, he went to Kyung-Hee Cyber University.
In 2011, Choi participated in a Korean reality show called Korea’s Got Talent. Before that, he used to work as a manual laborer who earned money by selling gum and energy drinks in the past decade. He performed for the song called ‘Nella Fantasia’ from Ennio Morricone.
His audition clip was posted on YouTube, and it got viral. This video received much appreciation, including from Jung Hwa-um, BoA, and others who also got noticed by American Pop singer Justin Bieber. Till his death, he was under a contract agreement with Bongbong Company.
Choi rose his fame and gained popularity from the reality show, and ended up as runner-up of the show. After the years, the singer’s career faced downhill in the entertainment industry. In 2021, the singer falsely claimed to have been diagnosed with cancer.
Following this, he received many funds, donations, and sponsorship. Later, it was found to be a fake excuse and revealed he was not suffering from any terminal ill. Choi himself claimed his false excuse and assured him of returning the sponsorship that he received for cancer after the conversation.
He also reacted regarding this controversy the public and said that he sincerely and deeply apologized for creating social upheaval and great disappointment regarding the controversy over the authenticity of his false cancer battle reported in the media.
He also claimed all his diagnoses of prostate, colorectal, thyroid cancer, and lung, liver, and kidney metastasis are false. In contrast, he excluded major depressive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Overall, South Korea is also known suicide capital among the developed nation, where many youngsters lost their lives by suicide. As per the OCED countries ranking, South Korea topped first to the suicide cases. The government has also taken action and spread much awareness.
Still, there is less impact on the decrease of death rates. According to the reports, there are several factors that lead to a high suicide rate, which can be caused by insecurity, K-beauty standards and pressure of academics and job stress, and many more.
South Korean Entertainment industry is also witnessed many deaths and tagged up for the suicidal case. Recently, 29 years old K-Pop singer Hae Soo lost her life by suicide. In April, one of the popular band ASTRO members, Moon bin, also died by suicide at the age of 25. Now, Korea’s Got Talent fame Choi Sung-bong also lost his life by suicide.
