With the movie still relevant after 20 years, fans are curious about American Psycho. The film throws light on a psychological horror film. Marry Harron has directed the same. The plot for the project was inspired by the novel written by Bret Easton Ellis.
Christian Bale is featured in the lead role of American Psycho as Patrick Bateman. He is an investment banker working in the financial district of New York City. Although, he soon becomes a serial killer and leads a double life.
The movie is set in the late 1980s when Patrick is living in Manhattan and has a widely successful career. Despite the fact that he looks like a calm and collected guy on the outside, he is very violent and disturbed on the inside.
American Psycho – Plot Details
As we see in the movie, his sadistic behavior only grows as time passes by. He is witnessed brutally murdering some of the people he is annoyed with. Although the worst part is that he is a huge danger to society, his colleagues are not able to make out that he is a criminal. They are too oblivious to his demonic side.
As the film moves towards the concluding moments, we see Patrick losing his grip on what is real and what is not. It all ends with a huge confrontation against a rival force in the investment industry. This makes the fans really confused about everything that must have happened. There were a lot of plot twists and turns throughout the plot, and the ending is user-based, meaning you can intercept what you believe must have happened.
American Psycho Filming Locations
American Psycho was filmed in various big cities to give Bale a successful kind of backdrop. The key cities where filming took place were Toronto and New York City. Here is a list of some of the key locations which were used.
1. The American Gardens Building
This building was used to film the office and headquarters of Pierce and Pierce. This is the place where Patrick used to work. The building is located in the TD Centre in Toronto. It has previously been used to film some other successful movies, such as The Incredible Hulk and The Sentinel.
2. Montreal in Canada
The city was used to shoot a scene where Bateman kills off Paul Allen. It all happens inside a cafe located in the city called L’Express. It is a French bistro. At the time of filming, it was reported that the insides of the cafe were modified a lot by the production team to match the description which was in the books for the same.
3. King West Neighborhood in Toronto
This area was used to film the insides of Patrick’s apartments in the films. There were a lot of flats that were used to film the same, and thus, it is a combination of them all. As for the exterior of the building where he lives, it was filmed at 225 Richmond Street St. West.
4. The Tunnel in New York City
This was a club in New York City that has now closed. It was used to film the scene where we saw Patrick dance to “Hip to Be Square.” It has become one of the iconic scenes from the movie. As for the exterior shots of the club, they were taken in Toronto.
5. Toronto in Canada
Some of the key locations which were used to film in the city were the gym and office building exterior, where Bateman used to go daily. As for the gym, it was shot at a soundstage in the city.
6. New York City
As we have already mentioned, New York was a key location during the film American Psycho. The production crew shot the favorite bar that Bateman went to regularly in the city. It is the King Cole Bar located inside of St. Regis Hotel in New York City. It was also the place where the iconic business card scene took place in the film.
