The 2000 movie American Psycho is a satirical horror film directed by Mary Harron starring Christain Bale, William Dafoe, and Jared Leto. The film is based on a novel with the same name written by Bret Easton Ellis. The Movie was released on 21 January 2000 in Sundance, Canada, and on April 14, 2000, in the United States of America. This 1 hour 40 minutes movie had grossed $34 million on the box office. The sequel of his movie was released in 2002. The producers planned to cast Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead, but he left it in the favour of The Beach. Finally, it ends up in Harron’s arm with Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman. The movie has a blend of horror and humor, and a fittingly creepy performance by Christian made it a blockbuster hit.

The plot of American Psycho

The story revolves around a wealthy   American psycho Patrick Bateman. The movie begins with Patrick dining with his fiancee Evelyn and some wealthy businessman, whom he hates the most. At a business meeting, Bateman and his friends flaunt their business cards mainly to prove their superiority. Enraged by Paul Allen’s card, he killed a homeless man and his dog. At a Christmas party, he lures Allen to his apartment and killed him with a mirror-polished ax. But before killing him, he lectured him about the artistic merit of a song called ‘ Hip to be square’. Thereafter he breaks into Allen’s apartment and leaves a message on his answer machine that Allen has gone to London for a business meeting.

Christian Bale’s character Bateman was a psychopath, he then brings two ladies to his apartment and brutally assaulted them with an instrument. Well, that was not enough, he then killed Luis Carruthers, who declares her love for him. Moreover, he even plans to kill his secretary Jean but failed. Bateman invites Christie and her friend Elizabeth to Allen’s apartment and killed Elizabeth. Fortunately, Christie runs away, but he chased and killed her. Patrick Bateman visits the ATM to withdraws money, but when he tries to do so, a text appears on the banking software that feeds it a stray cat. He prepares to shoot the animal but was interrupted by a woman, and he shoots her. Well, the shooting doesn’t go unnoticed, and the police chase ensues, but he manages to run away and killed two policemen. Running around without any direction, he enters an unknown building, and there too, he ends up killing a security guard and a Janitor. He then finally makes it to his office and hides under the desk. Our protagonist then calls Harold Carnes, his lawyer, and admits all his monstrous acts to the answering machine.

The next morning, Bateman visits Allen’s apartment to clean up the evidence but is shocked to see it was already vacant and even available for sale. Moreover, the realtor tells that the apartment doesn’t belong to Allen. Well, that was not enough, then the real bombshell dropped, Kimberly, the detective told him that Allen is alive and he is on vacation in London. Just like everyone else, his lawyer mistakes Bateman for another colleague and laughs off the mobile confession. So, all in all, the murders were just a vivid imagination of Patrick Bateman, aka American Psycho.
