Aaron Taylor-Johnson isn’t holding back in the new trailer for Sony Pictures’ Kraven the Hunter. Released at midnight, the trailer gives an exciting look at director JC Chandor’s version of the famous Marvel Comics character. Set to a haunting cover of Johnny Cash’s “The Man Comes Around,” the trailer ramps up the action and bloodshed. It even shows Taylor-Johnson shirtless to highlight his superhero-like physique.
The movie follows Taylor-Johnson’s Sergei Kravinoff, known as Kraven the Hunter. While the exact plot details are not yet known, the story will focus on Kraven’s goal to become the ultimate predator and top hunter, staying true to his Marvel comic book origins.
The red band trailer from last year suggested a darker tone compared to other Spider-Man universe movies like Venom, Madame Web, and Morbius. It features Kraven chasing large predators like lions and introduces a uniquely designed Rhino, a famous villain from the comics.
Who Is in ‘Kraven the Hunter’?
The movie is directed by J.C. Chandor, known for his work on the Netflix film Triple Frontier, the gripping survival movie All Is Lost, and the intense crime drama A Most Violent Year. The cast includes Ariana DeBose as the Voodoo Priestess Calypso, and Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s half-brother, Dmitri Smerdyakov, also known as Chameleon.
There were reports last year that Christopher Abbott would play the main villain, The Foreigner. Additionally, Alessandro Nivola, Levi Miller, and Russell Crowe will appear in supporting roles.
In an interview with Rolling Stone U.K., Taylor-Johnson shared why Kraven the Hunter interested him. “I think there was something unique about this character and something grounded,” he said.
He also mentioned that he believes audiences are tired of formulaic studio films and that he only took on the role because there was something special to bring to this character.
Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters in December.
