Netflix’s Swedish criminal thriller drama series “A Nearly Normal Family,” which is based on the same-titled novel by Mattias Edvardsson, centers on the seemingly typical Sandell family, which comprises the priest Adam, the lawyer Ulrika, and their teenage daughter Stella.
The idyllic lives of the three-person family, who live in a fancy suburban area, are shattered when Stella is detained after being suspected of killing a close relative. Adam and Ulrika, clueless and taken aback by the circumstances, are fervently trying to assist their daughter in escaping. Still, they can’t shake the idea that they don’t truly know Stella’s daughter and the whole story.
A superb cast of Swedish performers, including Alexandra Karlsson Tyrefors, Lo Kauppi, Björn Bengtsson, Christian Sundgren, and Melisa Ferhatovic, star in the criminal drama that was once called “En Helt Vanlig Familj.”
The drama “A Nearly Normal Family” is set in a suburb just outside of Lund and includes a number of interesting sets and sites, such as a courtroom and a church, so viewers may wonder where it was made.
The locations for “A Nearly Normal Family” are Lund and Stockholm in Sweden. Principal photography for the thriller series is said to have started in October 2022 and ended a few months later, in mid-December of that same year. Plot Of The Movie
Stella, who is fifteen years old, goes swimming with Robin, her assistant handball coach, at the beginning of “A Nearly Normal Family.” After swimming, they go into a boathouse and start kissing, but Robin eventually rapes her.
Because there isn’t enough proof to hold the rapist accountable, Stella’s parents, Adam and Ulrika Sandell, decide not to press charges to spare their daughter from more pain. Years later, with her best friend Amina gone to hang around with other friends, Stella is celebrating her sixteenth birthday alone.
Stella strikes into a conversation with a boy she likes, and the two decide to drive to Copenhagen to spend the evening visiting galleries and nightclubs. After returning, the boy, Christoffer “Chris” Olsen, follows Stella on Instagram, and the two wind up becoming friends.
Meanwhile, Adam has good reason to believe that he and his wife Ulrika are having an affair. Ulrika goes for a critical business assignment, and Adam follows up with Stella, who hasn’t arrived home yet. Adam then happens to see his daughter having a nighttime shower.
After killing Chris, Stella is brought into custody the next day. After Stella’s jail term, Adam and Ulrika take extreme precautions to keep their daughter safe. Ulrika hides the same blood-stained clothes in her father’s ageing home after discovering them under Stella’s bed.
Adam, on the other hand, lies to a police officer to disprove the police theory that the girl killed Chris after midnight, claiming that his daughter came home at 11:55 on the night of the murder.
Ulrika asks her secret lover Mikael Blomberg to defend Stella in court. Retrospective flashbacks reveal that Stella initially dated Chris because she believed he was the ideal companion—someone who would respect her decisions and listen to her.
