Fan Theories and endings
Some of the fans on Reddit have their take on the ending and what was going on with the movies.
One Reddit user said he believed that Faith was suffering from delusions because of all the trauma and heroin addiction. The monster that was shown in the movie was nothing but that heroin addiction monster, visually.
The two strangers never actually came into the house; they did not even exist. Those two were reminders of Faith’s past trauma. He added that in the end, the audience is shown a part where a memory is shown involved Faith where she is consuming drugs and raping a guy who was trying to save her.
Maybe the daughter was trying to get out and escape because she couldn’t take the drugs anymore that Faith was giving her. After many attempts, she finally managed to escape the house, but it was so cold outside that she died of freezing.
It is still not clear as to why she was dead. The only thing that makes sense is her freezing in the cold and dying because of that.
Another user said that he is a bit confused because most of the movie happens in harsh winters, but after a week, there was no snow, so what role does cold weather play in her addiction? He added that his daughter died because of the drugs present in the jug.
One user added the ending is when the daughter tripped or escaped somehow; she was tangled in the trees outside and froze to death or even fell out from the window to flee and died. When the body was recovered, it was decayed, which indicates that it was not a recent death. The movie solely focuses on addiction and how a delusional mind works.
The daughter jumped out of the window onto a tree, but the branches broke off and rushed her. A week later, her body is discovered with snowy wear and tear, and this is why her body looks so ghastly.
It is still a mystery why Faith was drugging her daughter from the start. Maybe she was not ill at all, or maybe she was, and Faith was curing her, and because of that, her daughter was trying to escape.
