Skeleton Double Chapter 8 will just be the start of the story as the skeletons and the factions have gathered in one place. In the seven chapters, the story has set up the problems, has the main character grow a little, and presents us with a list of foes who are all too eager to take each other down.

Now, it also feels like the manga won’t go for too long as the story is fast-paced, and the info we get is only about the world of skeletons or how they come to be. While this might be nice, we hardly get to know characters, if at all. The series is also not shy about speeding things to get from one point of the story to another.

The story’s weakest point is not its world-building but the lack of character development that has been sparse in the issues so far. Still, this is just the beginning, and mangaka is not a rookie who has been writing for the first time. Because in the few issues we have had, the action scenes have been few and are made sure to progress the plot rather than be a fighting spectacle.

Skeleton Double Chapter 7 was less action and more info, along with foreshadowing. We see what the underground skeleton looked like and who they are operating under, the man who was in charge of the original experiments. What doesn’t make sense is why the boss wants Arakawa’s contribution, a willful contribution.

For all we know, he has been the most normal of characters since the introduction of the series. But, we get hints as to what the case might be. The chapter opens with an explanation of how skeletons are made. The process is tedious and requires to use of an invisible Shellfish that is hard to come by. The shellfish are exposed to an environment that manifests a gem inside it, which then can be used to make a skeleton.

The gem bonds with the host and the regions it bonds to give the user the ability to turn invisible. This is the explanation that was handed to us, but this doesn’t mean we have been given full info. And the Skeleton researcher (now the boss of underground skeletons) suggests that there was something about the process that bothers him to this day. But before he could finish what it was, Yoroibata came knocking on her door.

Skeleton Double Chapter 8 will be an all-out fight between the two factions of skeletons with Arakawa’s freedom on the line. Arakawa didn’t have much time to shine in the series, but he has been the story’s emotional center and the decision-maker as to how the story will go. But that doesn’t mean he is incapable. He is just out of depth which makes things unpredictable.

Right now, his main priority is to share what he has learned with Yoroibata, who has come looking for him. But the main that could be revealed is the reason why Arakawa’s involvement is necessary. The possible reason, so far, is his being used as a scapegoat and being sacrificed for the greater good. The main villain is revealed to be a psychopath who is willing to give whatever reason to meet his goal, but we should learn his intentions soon enough.
