The series follows the story of Cal Hunter and Claire Segeren, a couple who accidentally purchased a crumbling eyesore of property 35 miles away from their intended target flat in Glasgow. Wondering how it could have happened?
Well, Three years ago, Cal Hunter from Hull and Claire Segeren from Toronto attempted to purchase a property in Glasgow. At the auction, Cal meant to bid on a flat in the city center but accidentally placed a successful bid on Jameswood Villa instead–a property located in Dunoon and part of Cowal peninsula situated in southern Argyll and Bute.
In the first episode, The pair inspect the Villa, it is uninhabitable, and they are assessing the work required. Cal’s father and the construction workers begin to erect scaffolding and work on the roof. With the help of online volunteers, they meet Peggy from Virginia, who has traveled to Scotland to help.

In the first episode of “Accidental Renovators”, Cal and Claire Hunter take a trip to inspect their new property, Jameswood Villa. They use the internet to hire people from all over the world as volunteers.
Cal and Claire’s money worries become apparent as they discover that the work on Jameswood Villa is much more than they had anticipated. Living in a caravan on site and doing as much of the work themselves with unpaid volunteers, they realize it’s time to ask for financial help.
After the story of their house comes to attention online and their social media following develops, Cal and Claire establish a GoFundMe page and begin receiving generous donations from people all around the world – some as far away as Australia – who are interested in their tale.
