Sunmi was not a soloist from the beginning but was once also a part of a girl group. Born on May 2, 1992, Sunmi was prepared to take over the world. Which Girl Group Was Sunmi In?
Hold and behold, Sunmi had debuted with JYP Entertainment’s Wonder Girls in the year 2006 as the main dancer, bassist, and visual of the group. With bop songs like theirs, Wonder Girls immediately rose to stardom and even started to bring international fame t K-pop. The girls also went on to go on a world tour with the Jonas brothers. The official lineup consisted of Sunye, Yeeun, Sunmi, HyunA, and Sohee, but HyunA, after she left in July, was replaced by Yubin.
After enjoying the fame for four years, in 2010, Sunmi left the group to pursue her education and was replaced by Hyerim. After three years, Sunmi made her return to the music industry and debuted as a solo artist with 24 Hours. She started breaking records since then and received an immediate all-kill. When fans were disheartened that Sunye and Sohee left the group, they became happier when they found out that Sunmi was re-joining Wonder Girls. Ever since then, Sunmi has been actively participating in the group’s albums and songs by co-writing and co-producing them.
When Did The Group Sunmi Was In Disband?
It was announced in 2017 that as Sunmi and Yeeun had not renewed their contract with the company, Wonder Girls would be disbanding. The group released their last song, Draw Me, which also served as a gift for their 10th anniversary. With this, Sunmi went back to concentrating on her solo career. And this is when Sunmi released one of the most iconic songs by her yet, which was produced by Teddy Park from The Black Label, Gashina. There is no K-pop fan who does not know the hook step of the song or does not recognize the song at once. 2017 was truly a great year for K-pop!
After the successful releases of Heroine and Siren, she went on to go on a world tour named Warning. Warning is also the name of her second EP. With the Warning world tout, Sunmi toured around eighteen cities across Asia, America, and Europe and had quite a busy time. On top of that, in the midst of the tour, she even released the song Noir. If that was not enough, Sunmi even released another single by the end of her tour named Lalalay. You can just see how Sunmi kept releasing smash after smash and even created as she dreamed of creating a brand of music of her own. Many loved the nostalgic disco beats and city-pop that are always found in her songs.
