The latest episode of Deaimon: Recipe For Happiness recently blessed us with a chill and light-hearted story of a new worker at Ryokushou and a fun, confectionery-making class. The episode, titled “Dancing in Autumn Colors” had a subtle theme of sweets being related to the change of seasons as well. Deaimon Episode 8 shall be coming up soon next week on Wednesday and fans are excited to see what the next story holds.
For those who do not know, Deaimon is a seinen, slice of life anime series centered around Ngomu Irino, who once dreamed of being a musician. To pursue his dream of joining a band, he runs away from his home at a young age, leaving behind his parents and their family’s confectionery shop. When his father, inclined to the hospital, asks Nagomu to take over the family business, he has no choice but to forget his dream and leave Tokyo.
However, when he returns to his family’s sweet shop, he finds out that a girl named Itsuka Yukihira, who had been adopted by Nagomu’s mother as a foster child, has been working in the shop all this time. His mother declares that the next heir to the shop, Ryokushou will be chosen by an unstated competition between the two. The series mixes an adorable plot based around sweets and other confectionery with slight tinges of a found family trope, making Deaimon an interesting and relaxing series to watch.
Deaimon Episode 7 Recap
The episode starts with the viewer being introduced to a new character who is ready to start off her new job. Later, we find out that she actually is a new worker at Ryokushou. Her name is Kisaichi Hiiro, and she comes off as a serious girl. Hiiro had completed confectionery school with outstanding grades, and her earnest attitude shows in her habit of only being focused on work.
Her sense of validation comes from the work she does, so when her cold personality is unable to interact well with customers who show up at the shop and need some guidance on the products, she is unable to make any suggestions. Hiiro then feels ashamed when she sees how good Itsuka is at her job and states that there is no importance in idle chat with the customers. Itsuka counters it with praise for Nagomu, who always has a lot of love for his work as well as his customers.
In an embarrassing rush, Hiiro goes away to cool off as she feels silly for not knowing basic things that even a child-like Itsuka could understand. She is then comforted by Masa san, who tells her to learn from this experience. He tells her that he remembers her from the confectionery-making class he held and how she was extremely focused on the process. Masa san then commends her on making it this far and encourages Hiiro to continue what she is doing.
The next part of the episode is focused on a traditional confectionary class wherein Itsuka, and her classmates get a lesson in making sweets for tea from the workers of Ryokushou. During the class, one of the students, Miyu, is disheartened by the fact that her mother always calls her clumsy when she is working on her traditional sweet, Wagashi. The mother explains how she does it out of the endearment she feels, but Nagomu makes her see that sometimes, being laughed at can really kill one’s potential.
The wholesome episode ends with Nagomu finding out that the person Hiiro had been staring at with eyes of admiration was not his dad but Masa san all along.
