It’s been more than a decade since Battlestar Galactica ended, and the finale is still a topic of hot debate. Some fans loved it, while others thought it was a huge disappointment. What’s the truth behind the finale? Why did some people hate it? Let’s take a closer look at what happened in the final episode and try to make some sense of it all.
There’s no doubt that the Battlestar Galactica finale was a confusing one. Many questions were left unanswered, and viewers were left with more than a few plot holes. Why did the final episode feel so rushed? What was the point of the Cylon opera? And what happened to Starbuck? These are just some of the questions that still puzzle fans to this day.
Battlestar Galactica Ending Explained
Some people argue that the Battlestar Galactica finale was a huge disappointment. They say that it didn’t make sense and that it left too many questions unanswered. Others argue that the finale was actually quite brilliant and that it provided a satisfying conclusion to the series. So which is it? Did the Battlestar Galactica finale suck, or was it a masterpiece?
Well, to be honest, it’s a bit of both. The finale had its flaws, but it also had some very strong points. Let’s take a closer look at what happened in the final episode and try to make some sense of it all.
The Finale Was A Rush!
The first thing to note is that the finale was very rushed. It felt like the writers were trying to fit too much into a single episode, and as a result, some things were left unexplained. For example, what was the point of the Cylon opera? It didn’t really seem to serve any purpose. And why did Starbuck come back? Her return was one of the biggest mysteries of the finale, and it wasn’t really explained satisfactorily.
On the other hand, there were some things that were done very well in the finale. The most notable example is the scene where Roslin dies. It was a very powerful scene, and it provided a fitting conclusion to her character. Another strong scene was the final battle between the humans and the Cylons. It was exciting and well-done, and it provided a satisfying climax to the series.
Ronald D. Moore’s View
Alumni of Star Trek: The Next Generation and creator of Battlestar Galactica, Ronald D. Moore, came up with the premise for the show, which is based on an old 1978 TV series. Human society has been reduced to a sliver of what it once was, and is depicted as surviving on a dozen planets called the Twelve Colonies. For its blend of political intrigue, suspense, and philosophical debate, the 2004 series was widely appreciated. First two episodes were written by Moore, therefore it’s only natural that the final three were written by him as well.
Tough Call
Daybreak’s final line stated that everything had happened “according to God’s design.” At the end of the series, it’s revealed that Inner Six (also known as Head Six) is an agent of a higher power, resembling somewhat of an angel in appearance. Inner Six’s identity had long been a mystery, and this discovery was a letdown. Additionally, Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) has a complex past. Thrace appeared to have died in “Maelstrom,” the third season finale, only to emerge in “Crossroads, Part II,” the season finale, completely undamaged. Before “Daybreak” exposed her to be on par with Inner Six, she spent several episodes defiantly protecting her identity.
In the end, the Battlestar Galactica finale was a bit of a mixed bag. Some things were done well, while others were not. But despite its flaws, the finale provided a satisfying conclusion to the series. Thanks for reading!
