There is no way you have not heard of Bird Box! Bird Box 2 is now under work after the massive success of the first one and fans can’t wait! The Sandra Bullock starer movie was the talk of the town that year. Released in 2018, Bird Box is a horror-thriller post-apocalyptic movie starring Sandra Bullock, Lil Rey Howery, and Machine Gun Kelley, among others. Bird Box was released on Netflix and became the most-watched movie within 28 days of release. With a crackling viewership of 45 million audiences across the world, this movie really broke the internet.
Although this movie was the most-watched movie of 2018, it still has mixed reviews. I mean, it has a few intriguing stuff but also plenty of loose ends. Let’s get into that later and talk about Bird Box 2! Is there going to be one? You should know that Bird Box is actually an adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel of the same name. And Malerman teased the possibility of a sequel! Since the book sequel is called ‘Malorie’, it is possible that the movie adaptation will keep the name. Bird Box 2 is not gonna pick up from where it left off in the first part. Rather it’s going to take a 10-year leap. In fact, it’s been confirmed by the writer of the Novel Bird Box, saying, “Malorie opens at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends. Then it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off ten years after that.”
There is no fixed release date yet, but the process has already started. The title of the movie is gonna be something else. Reportedly, it’s going to be ‘Malorie’ as the story is going to be about her entirely. Other than that, we know this movie, like the previous one, will be a Netflix release. Exciting stuff is coming up, so stay tuned!
Potential Cast of Bird Box 2
The story is about the character Malorie, so fans will definitely see Sandra Bullock essaying that role. Even though fans would love to see their beloved characters from the first part, it is just not possible. That’s how it is for horror and thriller films, the kill counts increase, but the cast count decreases. Although you can see Tom (Trevante Rhodes) and Olympia (Danielle Macdonalds) through flashbacks since they were important in Malorie’s journey. But nothing is certain yet!
Sandra Bullock is known for not being a fan of sequels after her sequels of Miss Congeniality and a few others didn’t do well. But given the success of the movie, fans can expect to see Bullock as Malorie again. In the original Bird Box movie, the fans were left with too many questions.
Like, who is that creature, or how did it originate? Is it real, or is it people’s illusion? It’s great that a sequel is coming, hopefully, fans will get all the answers this time. And we might get to see new faces because we need more characters on the show now that most are dead. So who knows which actors and actresses are going to step in, but it will be worth a wait.
Everything In The Story So Far
Now that you know that a Bird Box sequel is certain let’s look at everything that has happened so far. The story begins with Malorie instructing her kids to keep their eyes closed at all times as they are about to cross a river. You certainly know why! the plot is divided into two timelines, the past, and the present. It is interesting that the makers reveal the fate of the main character in the very beginning. So, at present, Malorie is struggling to reach safety amidst the chaos of the mysterious creature. And the past shows the origin of her present situation.
In the past, some mysterious force takes over the world and caused mass suicides. It’s all in the sight, you got to close your eyes to avoid death. If you have not seen Bird Box, spoilers are ahead! Sarah Paulson’s character Jessica is the first one who dies, not to mention tragically! She gets occupied by the demon energy and kills herself in front of a garbage truck.
Next on the death count is the kind lady who helps the then-pregnant Malorie. But ends up getting absorbed by the energy herself. We see people brutally killing themselves, which is disturbing to watch tbh. Apparently, the demonic creature shows people their worst fears, and that makes them want to kill themselves.
Olympia, the other pregnant lady, forms a sweet bond with Malorie, but she also dies, leaving Malorie in the care of her baby. So eventually, everyone dies except Malorie, Tom, and the babies.
Well, a lot of deaths later, there is a five-year leap in the movie. Post leap shows a different life altogether. Malorie and Tom raise the kids in a military-ish manner because they have an impending doom over their heads. Unfortunately, Tom also dies, leaving Malorie alone with the kids; which is the present timeline.

Ending of Bird Box and Potential Plot For ‘Malorie’
In the end, Malorie and the kids do make it through the river and into a safe place. They end up in a blind school, which was a beautiful way to end the story.
Now, we know that Malorie and the kids are under protection, so why a sequel to a happy ending? As I mentioned before, there are a lot of unanswered questions in the last movie. A sketchy dude enters the safe house with a bunch of weird sketches, praising some dark lord. Fans do not know what was the meaning behind those sketches yet. People who were infected could look at the creature but were psychotic and creepy. The whole story’s pivotal focus was Bullock’s character, but so much more is left unexplored.
The sequel, Bird Box 2, titled Malorie, should involve these things because fans are now curious. And also the sequel is named ‘Malorie’ so it’ll be about her growth as a person and mother. It will be interesting to watch as fans already know her journey by far. Malorie developed throughout the movie from being a strict parent to finally opening up. And of course, the kids! who will be grown-ups after the 10-year leap. An interesting watch to see the relationship between them and Malorie since they’ve been through a lot of mess.
