Quotes by Reigen Arataka
If you have watched Mob Psycho 100, and know about Reigen Arataka, what was your first impression? Did you think he was the best con artist one could be? Or were you angry about the fact that Arataka was using Mob’s psychic power for his business? Either of those means, one has to have the talent of doing so, so in order to be successful in not getting caught. And seems, Arataka was successful, at least with his customers.
The characters in anime, their works/roles, and their sayings, are the most hyped upon. Similarly, Arataka’s quotations and his phrases are praised too. With that in mind, let’s see some of his best quotes in the Mob Psycho 100 series.
Concentrate on finding your next big story.
When Reigen called in for a press conference, if he were a con artist or not, he mentioned the text to the media “You should probably concentrate on finding your next big story.” Why this quote? For this, let us understand the importance of media. Mass media keeps us updated is for sure; they travel the news from corners of the world fast; they can even show us situations live, and they work really very hard to do the above.
However, in contemporary times, it has also become noticeable how media focuses majorly on one thing and not the whole story. You will even find it confusing who to believe. It has, now, become the job of media to keep the public in dark and show only those that will be benefiting them. Similarly, the media that focussed on how Reigen was a con artist and not on how good of a person he is, has yet to make the public realize.
You are not less of a human than anyone less.
It’s great and all to have extra powers/talents/skills in you or someone else. But that really doesn’t mean that they are more of a human than you, or vice-versa. You are you and they them. Be mindful of that, always. Arataka also explains this to Mob, “just because you have this psychic power, doesn’t mean it makes you less of a human than anyone else.”
Arataka’s words hit hard. Even when many judges or compare one person to the other, they behave as if the one with less to no talent/power/skill is less human. It really is hard to not listen to others and be on our own, isn’t it? However, if one decides that ‘no, I’ll only listen to what I have to say to myself and what others say about me positively,’ then sure you will be much happier than ever.

Run, if things go South.
Arataka tells Mob that ‘When things go South, it is okay to run away.’ What are you expected to do when something goes wrong? Maybe, fight? But, what about flight? Did you not know that it is always an option to either ‘fight or flight’ when something goes wrong? Regardless of any duty, you are expected to fulfill, it is always okay to even run away if things go mayhem. Because, instead of ruining oneself from fighting off the danger, it is better to run now and come back stronger later.
Useful to me and others.
When Arataka reminded Mob of how much is his powers worth to everyone, even the fans got teary-eyed. When he told, “if nothing else, they are of use to me.” Well, not only his psychic powers but Arataka’s words were directed to Mob himself. With Mob’s powers, wonder how many clients’ lives were saved; how many times even those powers saved Arataka. So, instead of being so modest and trying to deny the fact that Mob’s powers are of no use, Mob should instead be able to hold his head high up. This is exactly what Arataka meant when he quoted how much Mob’s powers were of use and how much more potential Mob has.
Do you ever feel as if you are no longer useful to anyone and that you were never and could never be useful? What did you do then? Did you go and ask someone your worth? Or maybe, ask them if they can lead to your path again? What did they say? Did they rub salt on your wounds? Or, were they able to satisfy you with their ‘positive’ answer? Whatever it was, were they worthwhile of your time? Think about it.
Don’t be destroyed.
What do you understand by the above phrase, out of the quote by Reigen? It may be subjective, yes. One can say that it means how we should be destroyed while in and around difficult situations. Some others may think it of as a scornful message. Like, how can we be destroyed if we can destroy it in the first place! Well, all good if that’s how people think. But, the real meaning of what Arataka had meant when he said to Mob, is that “don’t misuse your ‘great’ psychic powers. You will only destroy yourself.”
If Mob were to misuse his power, what do you think will happen? Mob would, obviously, become one of the greatest villains in the series. However, he would also lose his most precious thing. What it is? His sense of self. The way he is today, may not be the same if he were to go wild with his greatest powers. Limiting oneself to maintain oneself, is beneficial at times.
The protagonist of your own life.
Who do you consider to be the protagonist of your life? Obviously, yourselves? Or, wait. Did you ever have doubts regarding this? For instance, “my friend gets all the pretty things. Even in my own life, I seem not to be the protagonist of it.” Did you ever have such thoughts? Well, no to worry. It is the most common thing to worry about- ‘me not being the protagonist of my own life,’ that is.
However, when Arataka said it himself, did you pause the episode and thought to yourself “am I the protagonist of my life?” Look, even Arataka, a con artist, who has many talents including the talent of deceiving people, thinks highly of himself. No wonder he is doing a much good job, deceiving others, and is even maintaining the pace. So, as Arataka quoted, be the protagonist of your own life, even if things are not in place for you.
Become a good person. That is all.
When it comes down to quotes by Reigen, who’s infamous for being a con artist, a quote like “Become a good person. That is all.” doesn’t really suit him. Well, this is the general conception. But, never ever underestimate someone. Because, even if some may do evil deeds, they might do it for the right purpose.
Someone may rob a bank because they need money to pay for the hospital fees. The approach may be wrong, yes. But, what if the person surrenders after his mother underwent the surgery safely? Will you still call him a bad guy and not a good person? Confusing it might be, it is also worth thinking over it.
