Sophie Turner has recently opened up about her post-divorce life, shedding light on her experiences with dating and co-parenting after her separation from Joe Jonas.
In an honest and reflective interview with British Vogue, the 28-year-old Game of Thrones star revealed that she is enjoying the dating scene for the first time, something she hadn’t had the opportunity to explore when she married Jonas at a young age.
“I am having fun dating. It’s very fun,” Turner shared, adding that her early marriage had left her with little room to learn about dating. “When you get married so young, it’s like you never really learn how to date,” she said.
The actress admitted that the process of meeting new people and navigating relationships feels completely new to her, but she’s embracing it with an open heart.
Turner went on to explain that one of the most crucial aspects she now looks for in a relationship is strong communication. She emphasized that she wants honesty and openness, both with her partner and with her friends.
In fact, she’s even created a ritual called Safe Space Saturdays, where she and her friends meet to share their thoughts and concerns in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
This routine, Turner explained, helps her process her feelings and ensures that she never feels “left in the dark” in her relationships.
Despite embracing the dating world, Turner has made it clear that her focus remains on creating a positive and supportive co-parenting relationship with Jonas, with whom she shares two young daughters: Willa, 3, and Delphine, 2.
Both parents have been vocal about their desire to put their children’s well-being first and to ensure they grow up in a loving environment, despite their separation.
In the interview, Turner addressed the intense public scrutiny surrounding their divorce. She expressed her frustration with how the situation was portrayed in the media, particularly the impact it had on her children.
“I’m unhappy with the way everything played out, especially when it comes to my children. They’re the victims in all of this. But I think we’re doing the best we can,” she said, adding that her priority is to make sure her daughters feel loved and supported by both their parents.
Turner also reflected on the challenges she faced during the media frenzy following the announcement of their split. The period was particularly difficult for her as she had to continue working while being separated from her children, and the constant media attention took an emotional toll on her.
“I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the States, and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish [filming] Joan,” she recalled.
“And all these articles started coming out. It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother—mum guilt is so real!”
The actress also took the opportunity to defend herself against the rumors that had circulated about her marriage.
Media outlets had suggested that Turner’s “partying” lifestyle had played a role in the couple’s split, but she strongly rejected those claims.
“None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier,” she told herself during that tough time, reaffirming her commitment to being a loving and present mother.
While Turner and Jonas are both navigating their separate lives now, she expressed her hope that they can still come together as a family for their daughters.
“My dream is to have a huge Christmas where my daughters can have their dad there, Joe’s whole side of the family, their grandparents,” she shared. “I don’t care about the politics, I just want the girls to feel loved and have everyone show up for them.”
This shows her deep commitment to making sure her daughters experience the love and warmth of both sides of their family, despite the changes in her personal life.
The couple’s split made headlines in September 2023, when Jonas filed for divorce, and both parties issued a joint statement that they had “mutually decided to amicably end” their marriage after four years.
Following the announcement, Turner filed a complaint to have their children returned to her, alleging that they were wrongfully retained in the U.S. by Jonas.
The couple had been planning to move their family to the UK, and Turner’s legal action highlighted their earlier discussions about relocating.
Despite the drama surrounding their divorce, both Turner and Jonas have expressed a desire for an amicable resolution and to keep their children’s best interests at the forefront.
In her interview, Turner made it clear that she has nothing but respect for Jonas as a father.
“Joe is a great father to our children, and that’s all I can ask for,” she said.
This sentiment reflects her mature approach to co-parenting and her belief in focusing on what’s best for their daughters as they navigate life after the divorce.
Throughout the interview, Turner seemed committed to moving forward with positivity, not only in her personal life but also in her professional one.
While she enjoys the new phase of dating, she has also made peace with the idea of co-parenting and prioritizing her children’s happiness above all else. As she puts it,
“It’s a new chapter, but I’m confident that we can figure it out.”
Her openness about her struggles, triumphs, and the importance of communication and healthy boundaries in relationships serves as a reminder that even the most public figures are navigating the complexities of life just like anyone else.
