Fans of “The Office” have reason to celebrate as the beloved sitcom makes a comeback to the small screen with a fresh twist. Peacock announced the green light for a spinoff set within the universe of the original NBC series.
This new mockumentary series, yet to be titled, will feature Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore in lead roles.
Created by Greg Daniels, co-creator of “The Office,” and Michael Koman from “Nathan For You,” the show will explore a new setting and storyline.
The series follows a documentary crew in search of a new subject, stumbling upon a struggling Midwestern newspaper and its determined publisher attempting a revival with volunteer journalists.
Daniels and Koman will also serve as executive producers, joined by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the creators of the original U.K. version, along with Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
With production slated to commence in July, further details about Gleeson and Impacciatore’s characters are eagerly awaited, as additional cast members are expected to be announced soon. Lisa Katz, president of NBCUniversal Entertainment, expressed excitement about the project.
They further noted the enduring popularity of “The Office” on Peacock and the creative potential of a new cast and setting. The spinoff’s development follows months of anticipation after reports surfaced of Daniels and Koman’s venture into expanding “The Office” universe.
