Hyman and Gillian saw how easily Balken was defeated by the younger Dentos in the fight. Not only was Balken defeated, but he didn’t even get a chance to fight back against the MC. This made Gillian panic, and he asked the magician to do something about it, or his funding would be cut off.
Hyman was annoyed by the mention of funding and found it disgusting that he had to help that man. However, he had a quick discussion and decided to help his employer, for his research took precedence over everything else. One was Balken, the man who had once taken in Rudd and Aesir when they were young but failed to provide a good environment for them. The other was a girl from whom Rudd had learned about magic that he was employing.
Balken was at his wit’s end, so he decided to play with Rudd’s sympathy and tried to guilt him into forgiving him. Rudd didn’t understand what was going on, as the facts shown to him by the man weren’t in alignment with what he knew. We are then given a flashback of how things were like when Rudd was being taken care of by Balken’s company.
Rudd recalled the decision his brother had taken after the older brother killed everyone who bullied the younger one. That was the last time Rudd heard of him before he went his way. This also made the action series protagonist realize that his brother’s burden is his now, and that made him elated.
