Keeping that aside, a revelation of IU’s initial priority to work with the BTS leader – RM and not Suga, was raised online. What’s the reason behind this?

Well, IU made an appearance on Suga’s YouTube show, Suchwita. There, she had a revelation about her willingness to work with RM. She previously reached out to him to ask for the number of the BTS leader.
At that time, her real intention would have led to “something very serious.” Even though she managed RM’s contact details, she never dared to call him up. That was probably because of the lack of their familiarity. That’s destiny, though. Naturally, it never happened.
Also, IU shared that she was not in the best place mentally. The celebrity singer lost some of her close friends like Sulli and Jonghyun from SHINee.
She wanted to bring up her emotions in the song. That made her give up to work with RM at the time. For the development of the song she wanted to work on, IU felt like doing it with someone of the same age would be fruitful. She chose and showed her willingness then, for Suga.
After IU collaborated with Suga, she labeled him as the “best producer” to work with. Slowly, their friendship became strong. She said, “Asking Suga for his number took a lot of courage for me, and I had this impulse to do this quickly, but after I got his number. He’s just a total stranger, and I couldn’t get up the courage to just call someone I didn’t know.” Suga laughed at it.
