While filming Mission: Impossible 3, Michelle Monaghan revealed that she had shared a kiss with Tom Cruise on what was supposed to be her honeymoon day.
Cruise’s Ethan Hunt discovers his first truly serious relationship with Monaghan’s character, Julia Meade, in this installment directed by J.J. Abrams.
As might be expected, the engaged couple’s situation deteriorates when Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character, Owen Davian, kidnaps Julia. Julia’s untimely demise is orchestrated as a calculated precautionary measure to shield her from additional damage.
Michelle Monaghan shares kissing Tom Cruise
As Michelle Monaghan prepares to star with Mark Wahlberg in The Family Plan, she thought back to her collaboration with J.J. Abrams and Tom Cruise on Mission: Impossible III. Monaghan told a sweet story about how she forwent her honeymoon to begin filming and about her husband’s surprising response to her kissing Cruise on screen.
Before the intimate scene, Monaghan claims that her understanding and supportive husband reassured her, telling her to “follow his lead, don’t worry.” It’s going to be a blast for you. It’s going to be amazing.
She was shocked to hear her husband teasingly say, “How cool is it that you were making out with Tom Cruise on our honeymoon?” when she got home from the shoot. As it happens, they were huge fans as well, making the encounter a hilarious and unexpected highlight. [Giggles]
Michelle Monaghan clarified Peter White was not jealous
Monaghan emphasized that White, her spouse, was truly proud rather than jealous. She said they worked very hard to get the job, which was around the time of their marriage and the beginning of their careers in New York. It turned into a significant occasion for them.
Even though I was anxious the night before, Tom and director J.J. Abrams had an amazing shoot. Monaghan conveyed his admiration for the pair as well as the franchise as a whole. She stressed the story’s authenticity while expressing her surprise at sharing it.
Ethan Hunt’s romantic relationships never work out
In the Mission: Impossible television series, Thandiwe Newton’s Nyah Nordoff-Hall, a thief who accompanied Ethan Hunt on a mission and later went on vacation with him, was Hunt’s first love interest.
Nyah did not, however, appear in Mission: Impossible III. Rather, Hunt got engaged to Julia (Michelle Monaghan), a nurse who was not aware of his secret agent’s past. As they had to part ways for her safety, Julia eventually married someone else, so happiness eluded her and Ethan (as revealed in Mission: Impossible – Fallout).
In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, one of Hunt’s most heartbreaking romantic turns happened when Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a long-running series character, briefly fell in love with Cruise’s character before meeting a tragic end at the hands of Gabriel (Esai Morales).
Julia’s story in Mission: Impossible 3 seems fortunate in comparison to Ilsa’s. It’s still unclear if Julia will appear out of the blue in the next Mission: Impossible movie, but anything is possible given the complex plot of the action franchise that stars Tom Cruise.
