Viewers have long been drawn to Western television, but programs like Billy the Kid on Epix stand out because of how authentic they are to the real world. This Western drama, directed by Michael Hirst, centers on the life of the notorious “Billy The Kid.”
The young fugitive’s life served as the inspiration for the majority of the series, but romantic and adventurous components were amplified to make Billy the Kid an engaging watch. Billy’s (William H. Bonney) life is chronicled in great detail, from his tragic early years to his transformation as an outlaw and gunfighter.
Bonney was mostly introduced in the first season, which concluded with him facing off against Tunstall’s men. The real heinous acts Billy has been accused of will be shown in the second season.
Tom Blyth as Billy, Daniel Webber as Jesse Evans, Eileen O’Higgins as Kathleen, and Vincent Walsh as Lawrence Murphy will be the cast members of Billy the Kid’s second season.
Recap Of Billy The Kid Season 2 Episode 1
The title for the episode was “The Road to Hell.” Things are going pretty well for Billy, more or less; he manages to pull off a first date with Dulcinea Del Tobosco, which gives him hope that he’s finally on the right track, and other than an open gunfight, John Tunstall, an Englishman with good intentions, seems to be a match for Murphy.
This is where “The Road to Hell” comes in. Billy has teamed up with Tunstall, a man who is fighting Murphy for control of Lincoln County, New Mexico. Of course, given that John Riley’s killing of his fellow countryman Jim Dolan departs slightly from the actual record, it’s possible that Billy hasn’t taken into account the extent to which his opponents might be willing to go in order to gain a victory—something that most spectators may not have done either.
This is good since it adds a pleasant element of unpredictable content to the performance. It doesn’t seem like enough nowadays to just read the major players’ Wikipedia entries, and a fresh take on these people and their experiences can’t be all that bad—after all, nobody believes this is a documentary.
With Billy’s real-life best friend, Tom O’Folliard, suffering the same fate at the hands of the same sheriff’s gun, one could hope that this tendency continues. When Tom initially appears in the show in the second episode of Season 2, he immediately wins the viewer over with his heroism of Billy and his somewhat sad past.
Billy offers to teach Tom how to ranch, but it’s obvious to all that as the Lincoln County War heats up, he’ll need to learn other talents. In an attempt to take legal action against Murphy and the House, Tunstall’s attorney, McSween, teams up with Judge Wilson—one of the few surviving unpaid officials in Lincoln County—in the hopes that this conflict may be waged on more just terms.
Wilson has good reason to want to bring Murphy down—his kid was slain by Jesse Evans’ gang at Murphy’s orders—but the proposal is a little unlikely given Wilson’s tight ties to the Santa Fe Ring. In “The Road to Hell,” Thomas Catron is also introduced to us in relation to that topic. He admits he has a very particular interest in Billy the Kid and that he is the most powerful guy in New Mexico since he is the head of the Santa Fe Ring.
