Castlevania Nocturne was recently released, and it’s safe to say that it lived up to the expectations that we all had in terms of it being great from a storytelling perspective, a visual perspective, and a performance perspective.
There are so many different directions that this season of the show could go in regarding the story that could be told.
Regardless of all of the individual issues and stories that the characters will be facing, the main story, at its core, will be about defeating the Vampire Messiah and bringing the light back into the world.
With the first season concluding and us not being 100% sure if another season will be coming, I thought I’d take a look at all that was out there, along with giving my theories and predictions on what I think could happen next.
Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 Release Date
The main question that’s on everybody’s mind is, will there be another season of Castlevania Nocturne? And the answer to that question is: we just don’t know yet.
Netflix hasn’t come out and confirmed whether this anime will be renewed following its debut season. The platform usually takes a couple of weeks to a couple of months before making the decision on whether a second season of a show is going to be green-lit.
They tend to look at how it’s set in the top ten ranking on the platform, how long it held its position, how many people watched the show, and also the completion rate.
Completion Rate means how many people that started episode one of the show ultimately went on to finish it. They are the main things that it seems as though Netflix tends to base its decisions on.
Another element and one that’s becoming more and more prominent in terms of the decision-making on a show coming back is if it’s transcended the space that it was in.
So, for example, if Castlevania Nocturne were getting spoken about a lot online, and it was clear to see that it was, I feel that would also influence the platform’s decision-making on whether it could end up coming back. The more rise on the show and the more it gets spoken about, the higher the chance it returns.
With the WGA Union and the studios reaching a tentative agreement and ending the strike, that means that the delays that were in place due to all of the work on writing being ground to a halt are something that will no longer be present.
The only thing that could delay the writing of another season is the fact that Netflix may end up prioritizing other shows that they haven’t been able to work on. Something that many other platforms and studios are doing.
If we take all of that into consideration, I think it’s safe to presume that if Netflix does decide to commission the show, which I think they will do due to the fact that the show has a rich history in its original form. I feel the spin-off has already had some good initial responses.
I feel we could get another season of the show around autumn or winter time next year. This would allow for writing, creating, and marketing, so there’s a little while to wait.
Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 Story
In terms of the story, there are so many different directions that it could potentially go in during the next season. With Alucard now arriving and being on the scene and the world looking like it’s been plunged Into Darkness due to Erzsebet, the group is now on the back foot, and there’s an uphill battle that they have to claim to claw back the stronghold away from the Vampires.
With the death of Drolta, Tera’s transformation and transition over to the side of the vampires is one that I think marks an important moment.
Drolta was Erzsebet’s second in command and her most loyal foot soldier. So I feel with Tera changing, she’ll most likely take on that role and responsibility that Drolta used to have, something which will prove to be hard for Maria to deal with.
We didn’t really see Maria’s response to her mother changing and taking her place instead of her own. So I think that will have a lasting effect on the character.
It may even change Maria for the better, causing her to get stronger and utilize the pain that she feels in order to want to seek revenge on the vampire Messiah.
It does make me wonder if we’ll see Tera, recognize her daughter, or if she’s almost going to be possessed by what Erzsebet did to her.
I also wonder if we’ll see Maria exhibit similar thoughts to what Annette thought about Edouard when she thought that it would be best to put him out of his misery, something which would make an extremely sad moment to watch if it did come true for Maria.
Olrocx Teaming Up With Richter
With regards to Olrocx, I’m hoping that we’re going to be seeing him changing sides and fighting alongside Richter.
Obviously, that’s something that’s going to be tough on Richter due to the fact that Olrocx is single-handedly responsible for the death of his mother. But I feel we may see the character change sides.
There was a line that Mizrak said to Olrocx in the finale where he said, “You lost your soul long ago,” and it very much looked as though it hurt Olrocx. Because I don’t think he sees himself as the same as the vampires that are looking to take the city.
Olrocx spoke of the place where he came from, being destroyed by people who wanted to claim it, and the vampire’s behaviors very much exhibit that same thing. Hence, I feel he may see himself on a different side to them. So, I feel we will see Olrocx changing sides.
Richter And Alucard
Richter is an extremely powerful individual, arguably the most powerful person that we’ve seen in the show so far, rather than the vampire Messiah and Alucard. And when he was fighting Erzsebet, he did look drastically weaker than what she did.
So, with his newfound magic abilities back in his arsenal, I think we’ll see him working on them and finding a way to become even more powerful with the hopes of taking up the Vampire Messiah and her followers.
With Alucard also being present, I imagine we’re going to learn more about his back story, why he wanted to defeat his father, the reason why he’s more like his mother, and why he’s devoted his life to destroying vampires despite the fact that he is part vampire and part human.
I imagine the theme of the revolution is something that will continue to be prominent as it acts as the metaphorical representation of the time period within this world and the division that’s present amongst the public.
Annette And Edouard
Annette and Edouard’s theme of being enslaved is something that I think will also continue, and it will be a theme that is close to their story.
Annette’s history of being enslaved and finding her freedom, along with Edouard being a night creature and being trapped in a new form under the church, I think we’ll see them utilizing their pain and suffering to help others around them.
Like we saw Edouard doing whilst he was trapped. He found his newfound freedom in helping everybody despite the fact that he was stuck. So, I hope we get to see more of Edouard’s conflicts and how he’ll eventually overcome them.
Erzsebet doesn’t seem to like Edouard due to the singing that he continually does. So, with him and Jacques being two-night creatures that don’t comply with the Vampire Messiah’s beliefs, I wonder if they will escape or if they’ll be punished at the hands of the Sun Devourer.
Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 Cast
In terms of Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 cast members, there were no major deaths in terms of the main characters in the show. Well, at least not on the side of Good.
On the side of evil, there was a pretty big one that got killed off, which was Drolta. So I think it’s safe to presume that we won’t be seeing her again.
In terms of the characters that I think we’ll see again, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll see Richter Belmont, Annette, Edouard, Maria, and Emmanuel, also known as the Abbott. We will also see Tera in her new form and on the side of darkness alongside the Sun Devourer, Olrocx, Mizrak, and Erzsebet Bathory, The Sun Devourer, and Vampire Messiah.
Along with that, we could Juste Belmont make a return. Most importantly, it very much looks like we’re going to be seeing Alucard being a prominent feature in dominating Castlevania Nocturne Season 2, too.
As well as the returning characters, I think it’s safe to say that we could see many other characters being introduced to us as well, so there’s a lot to look forward to.
