The youngest member of the South Korean girl group MAMAMOO, Hwasa, was revealed to have been invited for questioning and investigation by the Seoul Seongdong Police Station.
On September 10, the Seoul police station confirmed that it received a complaint involving Hwasa. The complaint came from the Student Parents Human Rights Protection Union saying that Hwasa has performed public indecency.
The Student Parents Human Rights Protection Union further added that the incident was sufficiently scandalous to cause discomfort and humiliation to the public who were present at the event.
Hwasa has previously staged a performance in May at the Sungkyunkwan University Festival. This was a part of filming the tvN program Dancing Queens on the Road. The singer performed “Don’t Give” with South Korean rapper Loco.

MAMAMOO Hwasa Responds To Hate
Due to the aftermath of the complaint lodged against the renowned singer, Hwasa, from her previous performance at the Sungkyunkwan University Festival in May, different reactions had surfaced online. Some had trashed the accusation of public indecency, while a few condemned the singer for her “shameless” act.
The Student Parents Human Rights Protection Union expressed their concern and told that the Kpop star had made an indecent gesture that could be interpreted as a lewd sexual act.
As an indirect response to the issue, Hwasa expressed that she is not affected by the negative comments and hate. During her guest appearance on the YouTube content by South Korean celebrity, Sung Si Kyung, Hwasa openly addressed the controversy.
Specifically, Hwasa said that although she just ignores the negative comments she gets throughout her career, the backlash with this current issue is excessively harsh that it is actually impacting her. “I usually ignore and am not affected by hate comments but this time, it was a bit over the top,” she said.
Hwasa further revealed that her latest single, “I Love My Body,” is an indirect reaction to the issue. While it is not her intention to disregard and set aside all criticisms, Hwasa believes that it is only appropriate for her to ignore those that are negatively impacting her mental health.

According to a previous report by The Korea Times, Hwasa may potentially face serious legal consequences if found guilty. The potential sentence could be as severe as a year in prison or a fine amounting to ₩5million or US$3,800.
This would mean that Hwasa would be removed from the public eye for a year, spending that time in a South Korean jail to reflect on her actions. Alternatively, Hwasa chould choose to pay a fine to resolve the matter.
However, it is important to note that the investigation is still ongoing.
