Mango TV has started airing episodes from Young Blood Season 2, and the comedy espionage series seems to only be getting more intriguing. With Wang Juan as a writer, Young Blood first premiered back in 2019 with a 42-episode season.
The storyline of this Historical drama series, also known as The Great Song Dynasty, revolves around a group of six young people recruited to be part of the secret spy group that protects the kingdom of Northern Song against Western Xia. Ancient Chinese kingdoms were known for their extremely skilled spies, who played a huge role in maintaining the upper hand for each of their kingdoms.
The first season of Young Blood successfully introduced us to these six unique individuals who each had a special skill of their own. While Yuan Zhong Xin was wise, Zhao Jian was a true leader. Xue Ying was a child of a military family, so he knew how to win each fight. All of these 6 spies make a powerful group that can withstand any adversary.
Season 2 of Young Blood premiered in July 2023, with a plot that continues right after what we see in the first season’s ending. Zhao Jian and the others are the only spies left, and they are tasked with assassinating their new emperor Yuan Ho. As thrilling as the task is, it is nothing but a trap by Ning Lingge to attain ultimate power.
Young Blood Season 1: Recap
Season 1 of Young Blood mostly showed us the recruitment and beginning of “Section 7”, which is the main focus of this show. Many other sections existed within this spy society, with each being assigned a task to work on.
What made section 7 so special was that each of its members had something to offer to the group. No one was left behind during any of the missions, and the bond that formed between Zhao Jian and the others was a very strong one.
They complete various life-and-death missions that bring them closer as a team, and they even form romantic relationships with some of the team members. The main protagonists, Zhao Jian and Yuan Zhong Xin, were a power couple that would guide the whole team. The first season was full of twists and hilarious moments, but it’s nothing compared to what we’ll be seeing in the second season.
