In ‘The Mistress Runs Away’ Chapter 40, we see that the guest list for the engagement ceremony is just about to complete. Rowena would now soon be the Lady of the House.

Rowena is, however, still the same humble lady that she was. She showed respect and was gentle and considerate to all the staff regardless of their status. The staff now was now apologizing to her for not helping her five years ago.

Rowena also learns a bitter truth in chapter 40. She learned that His Highness was a brutal man, especially when cutting ties with someone. Those qualities of him had earned him a lot of admiration, respect, and fear. Well, there was one thing missing in him as well.

His Highness missed affection; affection between parent and child, affection between lovers, any sort of affection. What should be one of the most common things people share with one another was completely denied by him his whole life.

His grace’s father, the late Duke, passed away in an accident. And soon afterward, his mother went back to her home country to never return. Even with both his parents gone, being as clever as he was, he fared well on his own. But there were a lot of people who were after the young heir’s fortune.

So, His Highness was surrounded by sycophants and people who wanted to get rid of him. It’s possible that growing up in such an environment took something away from him. The staff’s hearts broke every time they saw His Highness all cold.

Rowena had surely changed him. The staff could now see some hope. When His Highness looked at Rowena, his eyes could not be softer. Any time the two of them were together, the staff was assured that an amazing change was about to happen soon, which was a really good sign.
