The last episode of The Flash felt like a true homage to season one without a shadow of a doubt. There’s so much to unpack here. From full circle moments, we’ve all waited because it takes us back to the year 2000, and we see a new whole new world.
With only three episodes left in the series, and with the breakthroughs we saw here, I’m not quite sure where this is going nor how it is going to end! It was an emotional episode to watch as we see how Barry Allen’s revisiting of the traumatic events that led to the death of his mom shaped him into the present dispensation.
It’s not the first time Barry relives this. Still, the episode gave us an idea of how this last flashback gave the man the concept of letting things go ahead of what’s coming as he makes that time travels. So let’s put our seatbelts on because it’s a fast-paced episode full of things we need to cover ahead of what will be the great finale and the eventual conclusion of The Flash on the small screen. I keep wondering what the Arrowverse will be like after this…
The Flash Season 9 Episode 10 Recap
We begin at the West’s place, and it’s an early morning routine, flowers, a man getting ready to go to work at Mercury Labs, and we see a man named Malcolm Gilmore. Funny how he looks identical to Eddie from season one, the dude who sacced himself, paving the way for us to explore different timelines.
Still, we moved to the principal timeline, and it’s been a couple of months since Barry and Ollie got together. It all seems peachy: Joe’s happily retired, Cecile is trying to balance things between superhero and work life, and Allegra and Chester are working on some super secret project. The Allens are days away from Iris going birth to Nora.
It’s time-travel time, and Barry ends up in the year 2000 in his hometown. He sprints fast enough to make a wormhole and go back, but he can’t get that fast. So, Barry’s stuck in the year 2000 and is left wondering what just happened. As such, he reminisces about the head of Mercury Labs and recalls that an investigator named Gina McGee has this contraption that could perhaps get him to the speed fast enough for that coveted time-travel wormhole of his.
To do it, he went to meet his adoptive dad Joe to try and help him get to Gina, but it turns out Joe isn’t in tune with his whole time-travel-I’m-your-adopted son-thing. In any case, after a round of convincing, Barry gets Joe to give him a hand, but the moment Joe says yes, Barry realizes the date, and it’s that fateful day when his mom died and changed Barry’s fate.
Barry Meets His Folks
The moment Barry tries to get ready for his biological parents, the Reverse-Flash knocks him out, and Henry takes him to a clinic. So Barry uses a fake name. He has lunch with Mom and Dad. And takes a moment to face Reverse-Flash. In the middle of it, Barry figures out that this is the “real” Reverse-Flash, the one who killed his mom, and acts carefully.
Then, Barry says bye-bye to his folks and fights Reverse-Flash, wins, and makes peace with himself, facing the death of his folks, leaving just in the nick of time before another time twister moves him in the time-space continuum.
