The search for the thousand-year-old treasure continues with another episode of The Curse of Oak Island set to release this week. Now that the crew has managed to further prove the connection between Oak Island and the Knights Templar, the treasure story seems all too real. As for the Garden Shaft, the Lagina brothers hope that the sinking structure will take them closer to the hidden tunnels filled with gold.
Oak Island is located in Nova Scotia, Canada, and has always been associated with secret treasures and artifacts. Efforts to find them have been taking place since the 1700s, but none of them turned out to be fruitful. Now that we have much better technology to locate gold and other valuables, brothers Rick and Marty Lagina have made it their goal to find the treasure at any cost.
The Curse of Oak Island documents their journey and features architects, construction workers, researchers, and many other people besides the brothers. It was first aired on January 5th, 2014, and has released new seasons each year, with the latest installment of the show being aired on November 15th, 2022. With season 10 being ordered for around 25 episodes, we are inching closer to the end.
The Curse Of Oak Island S10 Episode 23: Recap
In episode 23, we see Marty, Charles, and Craig preparing to witness the bottom end of the 82 feet deep shaft. The construction of the Garden shaft was now complete, and one of its sides kept sinking, hinting at the possibility of a tunnel beneath it. Rick and Marty Lagina were able to rebuild this shaft with the help of Dumas Construction, and now that it was complete, it was time for one of the crew members to check the shaft’s end.
Charles had volunteered to check it first and had to undergo special training for it. He climbs down and sees the sinking corner of the garden shaft. They decide to perform probe drilling at the Bottom to check for any nearby tunnels. Marty reveals that he would be checking the place out as well, but his training is yet to complete.
Meanwhile, we see Rick Lagina, and his nephews Alex and Peter, heading over to Italy to meet up with Umberto Moruzzi. He’s equipped with extensive knowledge about ancient coins and artifacts, which makes him the perfect choice for evaluating the samples that the Lagina brothers had recovered from Oak Island. Zena Halpern theorized that back in the 12th and 14th centuries, the Knights Templar were transporting treasures and other religious items from Italy to Oak Island. They find similar carvings from Oak Island in a cave in Italy, which further solidifies the connections.
Umberto first checks the half coin and explains its similarity with a Roman coin from the 4th century. He then examines the metal coin and theorizes that it could have been used to weigh Byzantine gold coins to check for fraud. Rick is surprised to have found such old items on Oak Island. Laird Niven continues his excavation on Lot 5.
