The last episode of ABC’s The Rookie Season 5 is right around the corner leaving fans expecting lots of things and maybe a cliffhanger or two as the season comes to a close. With just one episode away, John Nolan goes out again to the streets to deal with criminals, emergencies and other issues as the show continues to explore his personal, and professional life and the ones of those around him. And with ABC renewing the show for a sixth season, we know there’s more to come concerning this police drama.
As the fifth season comes to a close, we’re in for some action, and as I wrote earlier, some cliffhangers because over the course of past seasons, the showrunners and scriptwriters have had a knack for leaving us wondering what comes up next. Before we begin, this recap contains spoilers of the last episode, so beware in case you don’t want us to ruin the fun for you. Leaving that aside, let’s take a look at The Rookie’s next-to-last episode of the season.
The Rookie Season 5 Episode 21 Recap
The scene starts with Lopez, who’s currently on maternity leave, sneaking into the closet to request Thorsen’s help in acquiring DNA evidence for a case. Wesley catches her in the act and lays down an ultimatum: Either hang up the phone, or he’ll report her to Grey. Yikes!
Frank Teskais our bad guy and he started out as a street thug. Moved his way up and has now become the proud boss of a mob outfit that runs everything from prostitutes to drugs. Frank might’ve killed his brother after doing a prison sentence, and the police reports say that he might even be running some illegal guns scheme of3D-printed guns that can’t be seen by weapon detectors.
The cops raided Frank’s chemical provider, and now there’s one more and the team is going to get there to nail Frank down. Then, Harper asks Nolan to go to the morgue about the torso discovered in North Hollywood. It’s the dead-end case she accepted to prevent Randy from going to jail, but now someone has found an arm. After that, it turns out that the new arm doesn’t go with the body. Nolan and Juarez are looking for something when they come across a homeless man with a leg and foot in a dumpster.
Chemical Raid
Chen goes to Southland Chemicals. She gets a call from Bradford to see if she is settled in, and notices that Chen is little worked up about it. Anyway, Chen goes undercover again and goes to Southland. When she gets there, Frank comes up to her and tells her that she’s a spy. Chen plays dumb and asks Frank to go for a walk, they chat and mingle. Once the trust is built up, Franks offers Chen $5,000 a month if she does what he says and if she doesn’t he’ll kill her.

Juarez and Nolan find a leg in a Hollywood reservoir with a dog next to it. Then, Thorsen finds the DNA, and Lopez called him to tell him it was a match. After that, we learn that During a meeting with the team, Chen mentions that Frank invited her to dinner. She contemplates the idea of asking more about his brother, but Harper advises her against it, reminding her that building trust should be her priority.
During dinner, Chen confides in Frank that she’s scared about the situation as she doesn’t want to end up in jail. Frank tells her he’s been there and learned the hard way that he couldn’t trust his family, so he taught his brother a lesson. Suddenly, gunshots shatter the restaurant’s ambiance as a car pulls up outside. Chen ducks and orders Frank to do the same but it’s unclear what happens next.

The final episode of the season will more than likely put to the test the wits of John and the team as one member of the squad receives a gunshot wound that will scramble everybody and leadership skills will be on the line. As the title of the episode implies, “Under Siege” means that every angle is vulnerable unless the team has it covered. Regrettably, that’s all we have for the moment as ABC kept the lid shut on any possible teasers. We’re going to have to wait until next week.
