Kentaro Miura is a Japanese manga author and illustrator best known for his manga series Berserk ( ベルセルク ). The plot revolves around the characters of Guts, a lone swordsman, and Griffith, the commander of a mercenary group known as the “Band of the Hawk,” in a dark fantasy setting inspired by mediaeval Europe.
Guts is a lone warrior who was adopted by the abusive Gambino and reared as a mercenary after being born from a hanging corpse. When Guts was forced to kill a drunk Gambino in self-defense, he fled his mercenary gang and started a nomadic life as a sellsword. After defeating Guts in combat, Griffith coerces him into joining the group, with Guts emerging as his most effective fighter and closest ally.
Guts starts having affections for his colleague, Commander Casca, the sole female member of the Hawks, while Griffith mingles with Midland royalty and gets to know the king’s daughter, Charlotte. A mysterious creature known as the “Skull Knight” informs Guts, who has spent a year honing his swordsmanship, that his deeds have sparked an “Eclipse.”
Guts rejoins the Hawks after learning of their situation and joins them to save Griffith while also expressing his love for Casca.
