Previously, Eustis had recovered from his injuries and asked Philomel once she had returned about why she had left the castle. Philomel had left the castle because she was not his biological daughter, so she felt that it would be the right thing to leave. The King felt that he was partially at fault and later wanted to apologize to Philomel and consider adopting her.
Philomel refused his proposition, but the King told her that she could stay there for one year. When Philomel tried to refuse, he shortened the duration of her stay from one year to three months. He let her have her personal space for thinking and went to his office.
Later on, when he was in his chambers, Princess Elensia barged in with Philomel and requested her father to let Philomel become her maid. That way, she would not be able to leave the castle. The King tells her that Philomel can be her maid only if she herself agrees to it.
The King also tells Elensia that he might adopt Philomel if she herself agrees to it, which makes Elensia happy because they can then be together as sisters and be happy.
