Watashi No Musuko Ga Isekai Tensei Shitappoi or My Son Seems to Have Gone Reincarnated to Another World has returned with Chapter 18, giving the fans something to look forward to. We shall give you all the necessary information to prepare for the well-anticipated release. From the recap to release dates, spoilers, and where to read? We’ve got you covered.
For the new readers! “My Son Seems to Have Gone Reincarnated to Another World” is quite the mouthful… But not quite what one would expect by reading the title. The series is not an Isekai manga, with the story revolves around our two main leads, Mio Hayama & Doubara Tomota. Mio Hayama highly suspects that her dead son has reincarnated into a different world, so she takes the help of her former Otaku classmate to help her meet her son.
Written by Kanemoto and illustrated by Hikari Shibata, this is a unique spin on a potential Isekai genre with a different perspective of storytelling, with the looming mystery of finding out the true genre of the series bringing suspense the way that no other manga has ever done. And with Chapter 17, we might be closer to the truth than ever.

Chapter 16 covers the day in the life of Mio Hayama’s estranged husband, Hayama Haruji, after the tragic event. Hayama Haruji seems to have a philosophical view on the concept of death, as he considers the act of paying respect to the cremated ashes of his son a mere charade. So far, though Haruji only stood by and watched people do the same, He finally snapped when Aikawa Riri visited the Hayama residents to replace the withered flowers with new ones.
With the loss of Taiga and Mio’s “delusions,” the psychotic behavior showed how mentally unstable he had become, evidently affecting his health when he got back to becoming a chain smoker. The chapter then ends with Doubara Tomota’s side of the story, holding the drafts of the light novel collaboration with the ‘Level New’ series, doing so, in the hopes of learning some new information that would be of help to Mio.
Chapter 17 starts with Doubara putting himself forward to show his work on the upcoming collaboration with his drafts to Enoki-san. Meanwhile, we see Mio Hayama’s side of the story, with her mission to retrieve the Key holder of ‘Youth’s Tale From an Eldritch World.’ However, before she arrived at the Hayama residents, we see Haruji being temporarily fired from his job for the lack of responsibility, understandably so, causing Haruji to rush out of his home!
The story then pans over to Mio getting down at the Komaoka township and heading toward the Hayama residents. However, Mio’s reasoning behind Haruji’s absence was an oversight on her part, which she’s yet to realize. But for now, Mio was here for the ‘Key holder,’ a bridge that could reunite the mother and son, once and for all. In addition to that, she was also here to restock Taiga’s bookshelves with the latest releases of his favorite light novels and other ones that Doubara suggested.
Watashi No Musuko Ga Isekai Tensei Shitappoi, Chapter 17, not only proved Mio Hayama’s commitment as a mother but also featured a key development in the story. We see Mio Hayama casually talking to what we assume to be the spirit of Taiga Hayama. With no corporeal or ghostly form shown, Mio had exchanged conversation with Taiga’s text bubbles regarding the light novels she had and about Doubara, who helped her pick them. To which Taiga replies by characterizing Doubara as an otaku, making it look as if Taiga was always beside his mom.
A subtle yet shocking moment, to say the least. With no mention of Mio being able to converse with Taiga throughout this point in the series, making it quite a surprise. But, like all good things, the chapter finally ended at a cliffhanger, with Mio still in the house to get a change of clothes; she was shocked to see Haruji already back from his work, not knowing the fact that Haruji wasn’t at his work, to begin with.
Watashi No Musuko Ga Isekai Tensei Shitappoi Chapter 18: Potential Spoilers
Haruji may seem to be a cold-hearted individual without a shred of sympathy for his son’s death. But, this could very well be a phase Haruji’s going through, the chain of tragic events from the loss of Taiga, his wife’s unrealistic dreams, and pressure from his home for a potential remarriage.
On the contrary, we suspect Haruji has the right intentions but the wrong ideals. At the end of chapter 17, we see the terrible state of the house contrasting the clean shrine of Taiga, with a new bouquet in the flower pot that Aikawa Riri offered, showing that Haruji does care for the Japanese customs upon someone’s passing.
Now with the possibility of a fictional aspect to the story, Mio may be able to get what she wants! A switch in the state of the genre at this point would be a revolutionizing moment in the manga, rarely observed in many stories successfully pulling it off!
