Along with being TXT’s only foreign member, Huening Kai is also the only non-Korean idol who has debuted with HYBE Labels for now. Kai Kamal Huening, who is more popular by his stage name Huening Kai is half Korean and half German. Born and brought up in Hawaii, the idol has traveled throughout his childhood. After visiting his family in South Korea, the idol moved to China and lived there for seven years. It wasn’t until Huening Kai was eight that he moved to South Korea and became one of the most talented k-pop idols out there.

1. Huening Kai comes from a family of artists. With music running in the family blood, 4/5 members of the idol’s family are actually artists. Huening Kai’s father, Nabil David Huening, is a really popular celebrity in China. He worked there as an actor and singer and met his mother in China only. Being the middle child, Huening Kai has two sisters. While the elder sister Lea used to be a member of a K-Pop group VIVA, his younger sister Bahiyyih is a member of the girl group Ke1per.
2. Huening Kai’s mother is South Korean, while his father is German and migrated to the United States when he was four years old. From his father’s side, the idol also has some Polish and Scottish roots. His parents got divorced when he was a kid. Traveling a lot, the idol can speak Mandarin, Korean, Portuguese, and English.

3. The reason behind Huening Kai becoming an idol is actually his elder sister Lea. Both siblings used to attend auditions together as a duo like AKMU. The two went on the one last audition together, but it didn’t work out. But one of the employees who cast Huening Kai saw him at the duo’s last company’s audition. And when they joined Big HIt Entertainment, they went on to contact the idol. While Huening Kai got accepted, his sister Lea couldn’t as Big Hit wasn’t accepting female idol trainees at that time.
4. After living in Hawaii and China, the idol moved to Korea when he was a child. Not knowing any Korean at first, Huening Kai used to be a really shy kid. He even went on to skip school because of the language barrier. While the idol tried his best to learn the language, he often had to go through the teacher’s wrath for not using specific forms. Trying to make friends in school, Huening Kai always felt lost and questioned if he really belonged there.
5. Before becoming a k-pop idol, Huening Kai wanted to be a journalist. For now, the idol’s ultimate goal is to touch people’s emotions through music.
