6 Souls: Plot Summary
One of the highly acclaimed American Films of 2010, 6 Souls, opens up with the introduction of Cara, a psychiatrist who does not believe in multiple personality disorder. However, her father is the one who has been dealing with patients with such disorders for many years. For Cara, multiple personality disorder is just a mental problem, and it can be healed with proper treatment. So, to prove Cara wrong, her father introduces her to a man named David.
David is a half-paralyzed man, so he cannot walk. When Cara interacts with David, she finds him to be a nice person, and she finds no fault in his mental health. She goes out of the room to discuss the same with her father, who calls David and calls him Adam. As soon as he listens to the word Adam, his body starts showing different signs, and he transforms into a different person with an opposite personality. Adam is rude and merciless, unlike David.
The one thing that is noticeable about Adam is that he is not paralyzed. He can walk easily without any issues. When Cara does tests of both David and Adam, she also finds out that they are not only different in personalities but physical traits as well. Soon, Cara finds out that David, the second personality of Adam, was a real person who died long ago. David’s mother believes that he died because of some satanic activities or witchcraft.
On the other hand, we see Cara’s family friend, who is also a doctor dies because of the wound he received out of nowhere. He bleeds soil from his mouth, and the effect of the wound starts increasing all over his body. When Cara arrives home, she finds Adam talking to her Daughter, but this time he is not Adam nor David but Charlie, who died a few hours ago. When asked by Cara, Sammy said that he asked her some questions about her faith in god, which she does not have because her father was killed.
David’s mother agrees to help Cara investigate Adam’s case thoroughly. When Cara hears Adam singing a tune like David, she asks Mrs. Bernburg about the tune, who tells her that this tune was only known by David, and she is confused about how Adam knows it too. Believing that the witch who lives under the woods may know something about David’s death, Mrs. Bernburg sends Cara to meet her.
At first, the witch does not say anything to her, but afterward, Cara sees the witch curing a man with cancer with her witch powers. She sucks the soul of that person, blows it in a container, takes the cancer out, and reanimates the person as it is. Cara again meets the witch doctor, who explains that her power cannot be understood by science. But Cara knows that she has something to do with Adam’s case.
6 Souls: Ending Explained
As Cara dives deeper into her investigation, she gets to know that Adam has the third personality before Charlie, who is of a Singer Wes, who is also a Satanist and committed suicide a while ago. She finds Wes’ room filled with Satanic stuff, so even though he is the one who does not believe in God and the bathtub, Cara finds Wes’s body decomposing and dies just like Charlie died previously.

Cara soon gets a lead of a man who may know more about Adam. Cara gets shocked to know that even Adam was a real person who did not have faith in God and died because of influenza, which broke into his town. At that time, one priest made his way to Adam’s town to give teachings about having faith in God. All of the people in town believed the priest when he said that witchcraft is something not needed if people want to lead a happy life.
However, no one knew that the priest had undue plans in his mind. When influenza broke out in the town, everyone who believed priests who would not let the people of the town die were betrayed by him. Because he used satanic powers to save his two daughters from dying while sacrificing the people of the town. The doctor’s grandma, proficient in taking out people’s souls to cure them, was furious the most.
Doctor Granny sucked the priest’s soul and blew it in the air rather than putting him in her unusually carved box. Before blowing his soul, the witch cursed that his soul would only become a shelter for those who were faithless. Connecting the dots, Cara gets to know that all of Adam’s personalities are faithless. On the other hand, the police call Cara to let her know that Adam has been sent back to her father.
Knowing that her father’s life is in danger, she tries calling her father to warn him about Adam. But he has already received the same mark as others who died and became one of Adam’s personalities. Cara’s father starts bleeding soil, and Adam has already taken over the possession of her father’s soul. It is surprising to know that Adam is the priest who was cursed by the Witch to become Shelter to Faithless.
As a part of his curse, he takes over the souls of those who are faithless. So Adam, who now has five souls with him, all of them were faithless, and when called the names of any one of them, he can switch to the personality of that particular person. There is one more person who is faithless and confesses the same to Adam, Sammy, Cara’s daughter. Cara’s brother calls her to tell them that Sammy’s health is showing negative signs.
Adam plans to take over Sammy’s body as well and tries locating her. Once he does, he first finds Cara’s brother and incapacitates him. Cara stays on call and listens to everything that is happening. Just before taking over the body of Sammy, Cara calls Adam ad David and his paralyzed personality of him awakens. Soon, Cara arrives at the place and escapes from Adam to meet Granny, who may know the cure to heal the wound that Sammy has received.
However, Doctor Granny says that she is not in a position to help because even Sammy, just like others, is faithless. As she does not have any faith in God, she is going to be sheltered by Adam only. Adam finally arrives to take possession of Sammy’s soul. Even though Cara tries to save her daughter, Adam is so powerful that he takes Sammy’s soul with him. Adam is now Sammy which becomes the green light for Cara to finally save her daughter.
Cara cradles Adam emotionally, telling him that he is her daughter. When Cara finally finds a chance, she kills Adam by strangling him. When Adam dies, Sammy awakens and hugs Cara. Cara feels that she has fixed everything that her daughter is back. But as soon as she wakes up, she starts singing the tune that David used to sing, and that’s when we know that Sammy has now become the shelter to the faithless.
