High school anime girls are not a new phenomenon. They have been and will be one of the most discussed topics in the anime community for eons to come. The High School setting and genre are integral to anime medium, more so than any other medium. Every year, hundreds of anime come, and a vast majority of them has high school setting in them. Why? Because it is the spring of life and the time when one lived to the fullest ( for most), and in Japanese culture, there is a certain nostalgia for those times. But they are not alone in this regard. And the sentiment is shared all around the globe.
We have compiled a list of 52 school anime girls that are appreciated by their audience long after their release. It is not an easy list to make by a long shot, and we had to go over some characters, again and again to see if they fit the criteria. Even the ranking had to be done multiple times as we started to get different perspectives on the characters mentioned. And for those of you wondering, Hittori Bocchi is not on the list despite the article’s thumbnail, but you will find a Bocchi much more endearing in the section below.
Here are the 52 best School Girl Anime Character Of All Time
The list will talk in general about the characters and what their personalities are like. Though, some of them will contain spoilers, so read them at your discretion. Feel free to add your favorite high school anime girl in the comments below, and tell us which you think you should have made to the list. And without further ado, let’s number 52.
52. Ai Miyashita (Love Live Anime)
Ai is one of the most endearing characters in the anime series. One of the main characters in the franchise, she plays a pivotal to keep the ball rolling when it comes to conversation. She was raised by her kind-hearted grandmother, who raised Ai in the absence of her overworking parents. Every character in the loved franchise has a color, and Ai’s color is ultra orange which reflects her personality well. Though the Idol anime genre does not speak to a lot of international anime fans, this School Girl anime is filled with lots of sweet moments that make the series enjoyable.
51. Sajuna Inui (My Dress Up Darling)
Dress Up Darling has a lot of work put into it by Clover Works. And though the series is novel in Idea, it is mostly fan service with a self-insert main character. To say the least, Dress Up Darling is a polarising series where it is nearly impossible for people to find a middle ground with each other on how they should view the subject matter of the anime. But, that doesn’t apply to Inui (except for that one fan service instance). Compared to Gojo, she is an introverted girl who takes the craft of cosplaying seriously and wants Gojo to help her achieve her goals.
50. Ruiko Saten (Toaru Series)
Saten, unlike her name, is a friend anyone can count on when help is needed the most, but that is how she grows up as a character in the series. In the beginning, she is a superstitious girl who would flip the skirt of her best friend in public. She would be at the center of many groups but starts to feel envious of others when they display better skills. Her jealousy leads her to take a short path, but her friends help her see the wrong in her actions and she then learns to appreciate her powers. She goes on to improve her esper abilities as the series goes on.
49. Ayame Kajou (Shimoneta)
This anime was a little controversial at its time, but the story was quite upbeat with a clear message. You can think of it as an ecchi anime version of 1984; trust us when we say that. Ayame is a High school student by day and a dirty joke maker at night who does indecent acts in a world where all of them are banned. This has led to people becoming unable to differentiate right from wrong and how to act when someone falls in love. As seen in one of the characters of the series who confused romantic love with lust. Her end goal is to become a dirty joke for the world.
48. Ayase Aragaki (Oreimo)
Oreimo was the anime that popularised the subgenre of imouto light novel adaptations for a long time until Isekai took over the industry. In Oreimo, Ayase is one of the best characters who grew up to be liked by the fans. She is introduced as a Kudure who goes into develops as a Yandere by the time series ends, as a joke, or the series would have a different ending. She is close to Kirino and wants to get closer by getting into a relationship with her brother. But by the end of the series, she falls in love with him.
47. Himeko Inaba (Kokoro Connect)
One of the main characters in the series goes through a period of growth of in the series. Her primary skill is gathering info at a great speed, which makes her great at learning things about others. But this ability also led her to gather people’s private info that they wouldn’t want to be revealed otherwise. Himeko might have a soft and calm exterior, but she is not someone who can handle difficult situations, especially the ones that get out of her hand. The story shows how she comes to terms with vulnerability and learns to take in the situations at face value.
46. Shana (Shakugan No Shana)
Shana was one of the beloved characters of her time, and she will still find a place in many people’s hearts. She is half-human and has been granted immortality as her contract with a lord. Her mission is to hunt creatures from another world and use torches that come her way. One such Torch is Yuji, who sees that she lacks humanity in her and tasks himself with giving her a normal life. To Shana, he is just a tool to be used, but as time goes by she becomes closer to Yuji and in the process, learns what it means to be human. The name Shana was given to her by Yuji.
45. Mako Mankanshoku (Kill La Kill)
Kill La Kill is known for many things, and having one of the best high school girls is one of those things. The Tritagonist of the story, Makima, is the third character who get development throughout the story. Though her battle uniform is not as crazy as Ryuko, it is the one that appeals to many fans because of how ludicrous it is different. To some extent, she is a clutz, but mostly her antics are that of an airhead who leaves everyone around her baffled and speechless. She has no ill intent in her soul, and all her friends know that about her.
44. Miyazawa Yukino (Kare Kano)
The series “His and Her circumstances” was a gateway into anime for many people before the medium went mainstream. Miyazawa is a hypocrite who puts a huge value on her public image to an insane extent. Her inner thoughts, though are nowhere near that persona. When her secret gets exposed to one of the boys in the school, she goes on to have a fake relationship with him that leads the two to develop feelings for each other. Though this trope is overdone by now, back then, it was fresh and well-executed. And this series is also one of the best shoujo romance anime.
43. Kate Shadow (Shadow House)
While most of the entries on the list are from old anime, let’s talk about a fairly recent one. Kate Shadow is part of the shadow house that has living dolls as a front for society. Kate took Emilico as her face to represent herself as the new maid on her way to the house and started working at the place. She took hold of Emilico as her puppet and used her to represent herself along with her cheery and upbeat attitude. This entry is one of the darker entries in the list, as the feelings here are not bittersweet temptations or coming-of-age love. Rather, it is a dark fantasy with lots of twists and turns.
42. Rinko Yamato (My Love Story)
Ore Monogatari took the world by storm as it had been a long time since there had been a great shoujo romance anime. Rinko falls in love with Takeo the moment he saves her from a molester on a train. Though Takeo thought she had no interest in her and liked his popular friend Makoto instead. Makoto was the only one who understood what was going and the understanding would lead to big trouble down the line, so he set the two up and made them confess their feelings. After this, Yamoto and Takeo started going out and stayed together till the end of the series.
41. Madoka Kaname ( Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
When it comes to a well-written story, not many come close to this series. The story is short, the conflict is simple, and anyone can relate to, and the consequences are unpredictable yet jaw-dropping. The main character of the series, Madoka, is a traditional shounen too good to be a truly good character but done right. Most of these characters have a glaring issue, and that is they can do everything. Madoka remains powerless throughout the series and is a bystander no matter what she does. The series comes around to her making a wish once it is revealed how much it can achieve and could grant her everything.
40. Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Akemi, the person who set the events in the series, is nothing short of tragic and unrequited love. She did everything she could for Madoka to save her from becoming a Witch and retain her sanity. Her magical girl powers were nothing short of a curse, and every time she used them, she lost a bit of her humanity. She saw everyone other than herself and Madoka as dispensable. This led to a breakdown which made her the villain of the series by the time it ends. Needless to say, Urubachi did a great job in creating her characters, and she remains one of the best high school girls even after a decade.
39. Suzumiya Haruhi (The Melancholy Of Suzumiya Haruhi)
Light Novels have been adapted into anime for a long time, but they were never a popular option among companies when it came to making anime. This changed when Harumi Suzumiya anime came and changed the industry as a whole, and not even Isekai would have gotten the popularity it has gotten today. Haruhi is an outgoing girl with an instant amount of stamina and a worldview that even makes the viewer question the reality they live in. Though the character is one of the best high school girls in anime to date, for the full story, you will need to read the light novel for this one.

38. Misaka Mikoto (Toaru Series)
One of the, if not the main character of the Toaru series. She has appeared in almost all spin-offs and main series while also remaining one of the pivotal characters in the series. Tsundere characters don’t have the allure they used to in the year this series came out. However, Misaka was not just someone with a crush on our main character with nothing to offer. Her abilities as an esper made her one of the top-tier characters in terms of power in the city that is filled with them. Heck, even a show was named her movie Railgun, where she takes center stage. When it comes to the depth of the character, the overall plot took precedence over their development, giving characters a slow development. But there is quite a lot to unpack in this character’s journeys.
37. Aisaka Taiga (Toradora)
Speaking of Tsundere, Taiga might be the best high school girl in anime if it was solely based on Tsusnderes. The character, in the beginning, is cliche as usual, but it was her circumstances and how she grew as a person that made her one of the popular characters in the series. Toradora is still one of the best high school anime to this day. Some cliches have been done and tried to this point, but this series did it well. One thing we can do for sure is the ending of the series is one of the most mature moments in anime you will ever see.
36. Rio Futaba (Bunny Girl Senpai)
It is not an understatement to say Bunny Girl Senpai took the world by storm. Inspired by the writings of the Monogatari franchise, the series took great notes from it. However, the concepts are similar characters aren’t. Rio Futaba is one of the best examples in this category, as there is no parallel to her in the other supernatural. Being one of the only characters that come from a scientific point of view of the supernatural world, her insight her important throughout the series. She goes through a crisis of body mutilation as she reaches maturity, which leads to a personality split that is hard to tell apart.
35. Shizuku Mizutani (My Little Monster)
Shizuku is not your average High school anime girl. She is warped in many ways, and this makes her apathetic and uncaring of others, which is due to her upbringing. She looks up to her mother, who is the definition of strong and committed. But her father thinks she is lacking in many other areas as the absence of her mother had made her inept in many other areas, like sympathy and care for others. This was displayed when the Young Shizuku’s class pet rabbit died, and everyone gathered to mourn. Shizuku excused herself to finish homework for that day. It was not until she met Haru that she started to change for the better.
34. Kaname Chidori (Full Metal Panic)
Full Metal Panic is a long story for anime fans. It took more than a decade for the latest season of anime to be announced, and the best they got out of Chidori’s relationship was holding hands with Sousuke Sagara. And when it comes to high school anime girls Kaname(the urge to say Chidori over and over). She is outgoing and sometimes violent with Sousuke when he ends up annoying her. The main character of the series is under direct protection from the military for reasons unknown (watch anime to learn more). Sousuke is assigned to her along with some of the other soldiers, and yet she is not bothered in the least about it and does whatever she feels like at the moment. She is described as someone one can look up to.
33. Chihaya Ayase (Chihayafuru)
Chihaya is not a protagonist of a romance story in any manner. When she was little, she got hooked on Karata after making a friend who was passionate about the game. His passion rubbed on her and she too, became obsessed with the game. We met her in high school, where she opened her club of Karata with a high ambition of aiming for the top. She does that to fulfill the promise she made in her younger days, but now it is also her determination to reach the top of Karata’s world. She is a tomboyish girl whose appearance and beauty are opposites of each other, and she can also be naive when it comes to the subject of Karata.
32. Matsuri Mizusawa (Citrus)
Of all the high school girl anime on the list, no one is quite like Matsuri Mizusawa, as she is the antagonist of the citrus series. She is mischievous and sly with no shame bard when it comes to her character. Her dress reflects her character as well, and she is not shy about using her looks to get what she wants. While she is keen on getting Yuzu for herself, it is later revealed that she feels lonely and wants someone to confide in. She has a caring side to her as well, but she makes sure no one finds out about it.
31. Yui Hirasawa (K-On)
K-On remains one of the best moe anime in the industry. A group of girls getting together to start a band and play songs to their heart’s content was novel when it first came out. When it comes to the Moe genre, this high school girl anime on the list leaves many behind in the dust when it comes to popularity. Yui is the slacker of the group who learns things slowly. However, she has a natural talent for the guitar, unlike everyone else. Her favorite part of being in the band is the cookies brought by Tsumugi. Why does Tsumugi have such great cookies? She doesn’t care, and she just loves her for bringing something so delicious to the band gathering.
30. Tsumugi Kotobuki (K-On)
Yep, Tsugumi is above Yui, and we believe she deserves the higher spot. The daughter of a big music company owner, she doesn’t have an ounce an arrogance in her. She is always looking out for her friends and doing the one thing that keeps the float going, bringing tea party meals. More than half of anime’s wholesome scenes are the time when the girls sit down and have a sip together. And as the one who provides that stuff(no doubt high quality, too), how can she not be one of the best girls from the K-On anime?
29. Hanako Honda (Asobi Asobase)
Have you seen Asobi Asobase’s opening? Did you think this would be a wholesome anime about girls spending their youthful time together in mid-school? Then you have been owned like everyone else who had watched the series because that OP is one of the best misdirecting openings in the world. All the girls are ridiculous and have their quirks, but no one comes close to Honoka, whose acts leave the fans speechless. It also has to do with her upbringing that was seen by Honda(a butler like him is one in a million), and she learned things differently for different games. This is why this endearing character made it so high on the list. Will we get season 2?
28. Nanami Aoyama (Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo)
Back to a high school anime girl adapted from a light novel. Iroha is one of the main characters in the story, who is pursuing her dreams like the main cast. It is nothing short of painful as we see her go through rejection and failure for her dreams. For those who want something more than romance in their anime, this is the show you must watch. Iroha might not be the female protagonist of the story, but her journey is far better than Shiina, who is devoid of emotions and is learning to live normally.
27. Iroha Isshiki (Oregairu)
This list couldn’t have gone on without mentioning characters from the series. After all, Oregairu has become one of the defining traits when it comes to light novel anime adaptations. The story is deep, and the characters are introspective while also avoiding most of the cliches that might shoo away people who aren’t into it. Iroha becomes one of the main characters in the series from season 2 and remains pivotal to the journey of characters throughout. She maintains a facade of a cute clumsy girl, but in truth, she is quite the calculating girl.
26. Alice Synthesis Thirty ( Sword Art Online)
Asuna has so many issues that it is even thinking of her as a high school anime girl. She, along with Kirito, has become a polarising figure in the anime community, with veterans liking them less and less. Alice, on the other hand, breathes a new life into the series, and for many people who wanted to stay away from the series, she was the point they got hooked on it. The best part is she has what one of the best anime girls doesn’t, a tsundere complex. Her fans even think of her as Tsundere Saber, Alice’s best of both worlds.

25. Sumi Sakurasawa (Rent A Girlfriend)
While all the characters in the Rent-A-Girlfriend series are older and in college, Rumi is an exception to the plot as well as the intention of many characters. While the other girls have something to do with Kazuya, Rumi is fighting her battles and wants to be more outgoing or be able to talk in the open when she is asked to. She is also one of the youngest characters in the series along with Rumi (Rumi would have made it into the list were it not for her obsession with Kazuya).
24. Shinka Nibutani (Love, Chunibyo, And Other Delusions)
We all came to learn about the term Chunobiyo(eighth grader) syndrome in Japan thanks to this series. Now, Nibutani was not the one who introduced us to this phenomenon. From all angles, she is the normal person in this series who supports her friends going out together and loves herself some gossip. She was Yuta’s first crush before they met, and the course of his life changed. But her encounter with Yuta made her good friends with her; she is an earnest girl who became her class’s representative. But she has a secret that she doesn’t want anyone to find out, and it was discovered by a troublesome person in the series.
23. Mi-Ra Yu (The God Of High School)
All the girls appearing are adapted from either manga or light novels, but only Mi-Ra Yu from the Manhwa sphere made it to the list. One of the main protagonists from the God of High School series, Mi-Ra Yu, is a greedy and powerful individual who can go toe to toe with one of the strongest foes in the series. She is what shounen manga female characters had been lacking for ages(and still do to an extent), which is why she is a breath of fresh air to everyone who gets into the Manhwa series. Now, while the manhwa is good, anime is average at best. You will find more enjoyment in reading the series rather than watching it.
22. Ai-chan (Tawawa on Monday)
There is no shortage of great high school girls in anime; ai-chan is one of the new ones that showed up recently in the anime sphere. With an easy-going personality and talent to have everyone pay attention to her without even trying, she has gained herself awe of many. She started as a character in a web manga that was being posted on Twitter by the author until Kodansha adapted the series for their magazine.
21. Haruka Minami (Minami-Ke)
Haruka Minami is one of the responsible people in her series. She takes whatever comes her way with a smile and does her best to overcome any obstacles. She has been taking care of her siblings ever since they were little while foregoing her happiness. Furthermore, she is relied upon by the student council whenever they are in a pinch and need an extra pair of hands. Her siblings see her in high regard and respect her a great deal for her talents as well as her looks. She also held the title of Banchou.
20. Tsubasa Hanekawa (Monogatari Series)
She knows what she knows and not the things that she doesn’t know. One of the most reliable characters in the series and one of the people Koyomi relies on. She had a crush on him for the longest time but couldn’t get herself to reveal her feelings for him due to the fear of their friendship ending. She is possessed by the cat that she and Koyomi buried that they wandered on the road. Whenever her stress reaches a critical point, the cat takes over and does mischief all around her. Neko Tsubasa was first seen in Neko Monogatari.
19. Momo Yaoyorozu (My Hero Academia)
My Hero Academia has a lot of anime girls, but Momo is one of the most reasonable characters in the series. She has an interesting quirk that allows her to create anything, but she must have eaten before she can achieve that. She is close to Todoroki, and it is even suggested that she has romantic feelings for him. Todoroki too sees her in good light and cheers her up when she is feeling down after the sports festival at UA. Momo was first going to be the teacher in the series, but the mangaka thought it would be better to see her grow as a character.
18. Rikka Takanashi (Love, Chunibyo, And Other Delusions)
We talked about Nibutani before, but there was no way we were gonna mention her and leave out Rika from the list. Heart and soul of the series, Rika is aloof and easygoing on any given occasion. She will turn to the chuunibyo side whenever the opportunity presents itself, a problem her older sister has had to deal with for the longest time. She is left in the care of Yuta as her sister had to leave for her chef scholarship outer seas. Rika adores Yuta, and it is revealed later in the series that her chuunibyo tendencies are her ways of coping with the loss of her parent.
17. Kei Karuisawa (Classroom of the Elite)
Kei has been manipulated and bullied her whole life, and the elite school is no different. Now she is under the clutches of Ayonokoji, who has made his aim to make his Class A in the series. Despite going through harsh things in life, Kei has a strong spirit that doesn’t break easily. Ayonokoji learned about it and made sure to use her to bring the girls of the group together. She saw Ayonokoji as someone with no presence, but the more she learned about him, the more she started to fall for him. Ayonokojo too, wants to change for the better through their relationship.
16. Mitsuha Miyamizu (Your Name)
One of the best anime of movies of all time and still the top in commercial ranking when it comes to anime movies. Mitsuha is one of the shrine girls in her city who is mocked by her classmates for her taking part in the activities. When she came of age, she began to swap bodies with someone, and she went down a spiral. The two made complaints not to mess with each other’s life by leaving behind notes as their cell phones won’t connect. She forgot all her memories of the period once she became an adult.
15. Hiyori Iki (Noragami)
Hiyori is not talked about as much now, but she and Noragami were pretty popular back when the series was released. Having stepped into the world of gods and their vessels, she gets to see the world with a view that is not possible for any normal person. Yato, one of the main protagonists of the story, too has affection for her, but he is more affected by his past and will to become a god of fortune. She is also close to Yuuki, who is close to her age but died young in an accident.
14. Komi Shoko ( Komi Can’t Communicate)
Komi can’t communicate one of the manga that the fans thought would never get adapted to anime. Given how the story was told and the lack of any studios to pick up the series despite its popularity, it was a frustrating matter, to say the least. And that was why the news of anime elated fans all across the globe. Komi has a communication disorder and has trouble speaking to people; what makes things worse is how people think highly of her based on their looks. It was none other than Tadano who saw through her problems and worked to help her get out of her cage.
13. Kaguya Shinomiya (Kaguya Sama Love Is War)
Kaguya is the best anime high school anime girl when it comes to the main protagonist in the romance genre. Everything about her is fresh and unique. She doesn’t fall into any of the cliches of the genre and has characteristics that make her look like a person rather than a trope spreadsheet. She has one track of love for Miyuki and Miyuki for her. The two are a constant throughout the series to make the other confess through games and schemes while also upping each other in studies. The manga of the series has ended but not the popularity of it.

12. Anri Sonohara (Durarara)
Durarara is one of the light novel series that could have changed the landscape of the light novel adaptation. Alas, that didn’t happen, but the show remains one of the great series of high school anime still. And in this, Anri is one of the main protagonists of the story who runs a gang in the city of Tokyo while still being a high schooler. She does it with the help of a mythical sword that helps her control people like zombies. However, she doesn’t use it to become powerful yakuza in the series, as there are many competitors to keep her in check, and she loves her school life.
11. Karen Tendou (Gamers!)
Karen Tendou is the only one on the list who has a bit of gaming blood in her veins. Well-liked by everyone in her school, Karen is the idol of her school and is fair to everyone in those around her. Due to her looks, she is asked out by a lot of guys, but she never gets conceited and is considerate when turning down people who ask her out. But when it comes to gaming, she bares no hands and gives her all. She is competitive and doesn’t hold back at all, no matter who it is. This passion led her to become the president of the game club in her group. While she is considerate in turning down others, she doesn’t take rejection well, as seen with Keita.
10. Yui Yuigahama (Oregairu)
Another character from the Oregairu Franchise, this time the airhead balances the melancholy in the trio of protagonists. She is bright, aloof, and a little clumsy but has good intentions throughout. She started calling Hachiman Hikki early in the series in a bid to get closer to him. But the truth is she feels guilty for his current status of being one of the hated people in the school. And wants to make amends to ease his life a little or even comes to terms with his nihilism.
9. Hitori Gotō (Bocchi The Rock)
By the time we are writing this article, not even half of the series has been released, and Bocchi is already a lovable character. Paragraphs won’t be enough to explain how good of a character she is, as her unpredictability makes it impossible to write her down. The comedy that is centered around her is one of the best moments in the series (it has only been five episodes) thus far. But what made her appear so high in the high school girl in anime is her motivation to play music. It is selfish yet relatable, but Bocchi being aware of it adds another layer of comedy to it.
8. Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket)
Tohra remains one of the best characters throughout the series and also the first created in the franchise. The creator of the series made her almost too perfect with no faults in her behavior, but it was her tongue slip that later became one of the defining traits of the characters. Tohra is a wholehearted character who takes everyone’s problems without passing any judgment. Her empathy makes her one of the most beloved characters in the Shoujo genre. Being the best character in the critically acclaimed shojo manga, artistically and commercially, is no small feat. And as you go through the series, you will learn what makes this character’s world apart from all the characters to this date.
7. Ai Hayasaka (Kaguya Sama Love Is War)
For those who haven’t read far into the manga, there will be spoilers. Many would say Kaguya should rank higher, but you have to give props to Ai for her dedication to Kaguya. While we see the calculating and cute side of Kaguya, Hayasaka had to deal with all her tantrums. Anyone in the right mind would lose their mind over it and even quit the job. But Hayasaka stayed true to Kaguya till the very end. Though she did quit, it was after the two had become close and accepted each other as friends.
6. Yukinoshita Yukino (Oregairu)
The best high school anime girl in the series by a long shot. She is on a similar wavelength with Hachiman, and as time goes by develops feelings for her. Somewhat stoic and blunt in her approach with others, she does not mean words when dealing with people and gives them to them on how they think. Hachiman and her were forced to stay together as a club as enforced by their homeroom teacher. She also has an older sister that is the total opposite of her in personality, but her inner character is devious from what we have seen.
5. Chitanda Eru (Hyouka)
Her favorite line is “I am curious”; though she didn’t say it, that’s what she ends up saying to Houtau whenever a mystery popped. She is curious about things around her and outgoing, too bright from Houtaru’s perspective. She has a strong nose that can smell anything from afar, and it has led to many interesting scenes in anime. There was one where her childhood friend was smoking in the school and was worried about seeing her when she entered his clubroom. Luckily for him, that was the day she had a cold, but it was Hotaru that sniffed him out with reasoning that day.
4. Sakurajima Mai (Bunny Girl Senpai)
Mai is affected by a curse that has made most of the world forget all about her and can’t even notice her presence. Sakuta is the only one who can see her and agrees to help her regain her presence in the world. She is polite and calm in dealing with things around her. While she first sees Sakuta as a character of the question, she comes to learn his reputation is false and denounces any attack on his image. Sakuta helps Mai reclaim her presence in the world by declaring to the school she and Mai are going out.
3. Hitagi Senjougahara (Monogatari Series)
You knew she would be on the list, the main heroine of the Monogatari series, the crab princess. Koyomi fell for her charm quickly as soon as she showed up. She had been inflicted with the crab curse that made her lightweight, which then led to all sorts of trouble. She slipped while going on stairs one day and fell right into Koyomi’s arms. Knowing there was something wrong with his classmate, he offered to help her and get rid of her curse. As the series goes on, the two fall in love with each other.
2. Shouko Nishimiya (A Silent Voice)
Shouko is a bit of a tragic figure, and her story is not one suited for young minds, especially not pre-teens. She was bullied by Shoya when they were young, which led her to move out. This led to Shoya being outcast by everyone and becoming unable to see people eye to eye. The two meet each other again in high school and come to terms with the problems they go through at that phase in life. She was saved by Shouko in the movie when she didn’t see any way out.
1. Kaori Miyazono (Your Lie In April)
Every anime has to end one day, but the ones that end bittersweet remain in the hearts of people. Kaori is undoubtedly the best high school girl anime girl of all time. She had so much life to her that her death left quite a mark on the viewers.
An anime of season ending in a lie plays with heartstrings in a way not many can imagine they would feel. Some of our writers even watch the series every year in April as a ritual at this point. What makes her special is not her overbearing presence but the gift she leaves as she slowly starts to fade out of the show. The ending of the anime remains one of the saddest to this day.
