Kurt Sutter and Elgin James’ crime series has been releasing new seasons since 2018 and has branched from the same universe as another one of Kurt Sutter’s shows called Sons of Anarchy. The show revolves around the Mayans Motorcycle Club and recently wrapped up its final season, thus bringing an end to the show.
The show has actor J.D. Pardo in the role of Ezekiel Reyes, Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes, Sarah Bolger as Emily Galindo, Michael Irby as Obispo Losa, Carla Baratta as Luisa Aspina, and so many more who make up for the badass cast of the show.
This series, Mayans M.C., is based almost two years after the end of Sons of Anarchy and also has a background based in the fictional town of Santo Padre, which is supposed to be located somewhere close to the Californian border.
The show focuses its spotlight on the lead, Ezekiel Reyes, who was born into a Mexican family and wished to enter the American borders but failed to do so because of underground crime and cartel violence.
Though he was intelligent right from the start and could have made his way up the ladder, he is forced to go down the path of revenge and vengeance, something he did not even imagine himself doing.
The show has a strong story and is a compelling watch with characters that have great depth and who rope you right in, but surely, the show has its moments when it struggles to keep the story afloat and moving in the right direction. Overall the show is worth a watch, and fans who wish to read more about the locations where the shoot for the show took place can continue reading.
Mayans M.C.’s Filming Locations
Considering the show is about a family that lived up to a certain point in Mexico, the show is actually filmed there too. And then there are scenes that were filmed in parts of California.
California
The fictional Santo Pedre town is, in reality, the Calexico, which is a city located in Imperial County in California. Though the show is shot in Mexico, there were some scenes that had to be filmed at Plaza Mexico Cultural Centre in Lynwood, California. This was done to get shots that looked like Mexico but were actually not.
While at Imperial County, one place that frequented the show was the Yuha Desert, which can be found in the show for at least three seasons straight. The Clubhouse in the show was in reality, the parking area of the Santa Clarita Studios, and not very far from this place is the Hustler Casino which was used in the show as San Buho Tribal Casino.
Some of the show’s gun scenes, especially the shootout scenes that needed explosions, were shot in Santa Clarita, California, a place that has featured in a few shows and films before. Places in Old Town Newhall, like Main Street, 8th Street, Market Avenue, and some others, were also used to add some short scenes within the show. The series has Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery, where two of the rival gangs get into a brutal fight; this entire showdown was shot somewhere in downtown LA.
The small town of Santa Paula also used to be the US Border within the series. Other scenes that also include the US-Mexico Border have been filmed in the perimeter of the town of Tecate in Baja, California, which is a part of the state that is an actual entry point into the US-Mexico.
Mexico
While it is a confirmed fact that the show was filmed in Mexico, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact locations, though a lot of outdoor locations have been used in Mexico. One place that can be found in the show is the Historic Center of Mexico City, which is home to many ancient buildings and landmarks.
