With reality television being the hype since the 2000s and the Writer’s Guild Strike by then, things happened and molded society and those who participated in these kinds of shows and productions.
One such case is the one of Collin Gosselin, one of the sextuplets born into the Kate and Jon Gosselin marriage that was chronicled and shown to the world on the TLC reality “Jon & Kate Plus 8”.
That show put in front of the public the lives of Jon and Kate as they reared their large family, which included Madelyn and Cara and the sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Collin, and Joel.
The eventual divorce of Joel and Kate impacted everyone in that family, as all divorces do, but in the case of Collin, a few things worthy of our attention are to be mentioned when we ask the question about what happened to Collin.
Collin and the TLC Show
Collin was born into reality television; the film crew would be in their homes five times a week, and having that sense of exposure bothered him from a very young age.
He’d shut down; he wouldn’t want to be a part of the show. When his folks filed for divorce, and the trial concluded, full custody was awarded to his mom Kate. And that’s when things began to turn ugly for Collin
What Happened To Collin Gosselin?
After his parent’s divorce, and with Kate Gosselin having custody of their children, Kate decided to send Collin to a mental institution —twice—but as it turns out, Collin has his own story to tell stemming from those loony bin visits.
Collin admits to having trouble with his mom Kate even before his two trips to the psychiatric facility, and according to him, being at the loony bin damaged even further their relationship.
After all, who wants to go to a mental hospital against their will when they have family issues? At least that’s Collin’s tale.
In that mental hospital, Collin kept private correspondence with his father, asking him for help so he could get the hell out of that place. He’s been very vocal about it to a few media outlets, sharing the same story over and over again.
Estranged
The only sibling with whom Collin has a present connection is Hannah; he can’t see or talk to the rest of his brothers and sisters. His estrangement from his mother molded him and will shape him in the future without a doubt. After all, he was forced to become a public persona at a very young age.
This is one of the sociological consequences of reality shows and their negative impacts on individuals who participate in them. There are a lot of problems with having no privacy and having a camera crew following you left and right without having the emotional toolkit to deal with those kinds of situations.

What Happened With Collin Gosselin After The Mental Hospital?
After being released from the mental hospital, Collin moved in with his dad Jon and his sister Hannah because the authorities granted his dad temporal custody.
Collin has had a rough patch; he wants to reconnect with the rest of his brothers and sisters and wants a normal relationship with them in the future. As to patch things up with his mom, he’s reserved about that. There are a lot of deep emotional wounds that he’d need to recover from.
These kinds of challenges keep Collin optimistic about the future, and he wants to move on. He doesn’t want a camera in front of him. Instead, he’s taking the low-key approach, and he’s planning on joining the US Marine Corps and taking it from there by serving his country.
To be frank, it doesn’t get any more private than that. Barrack life is quiet camera-wise, you’re only supposed to do what they tell you to, and when it comes to public appearances, those are limited to a very select crowd. And that’s something that Collin would want after being exposed most of his life to the lenses of TLC’s reality shows.
