It is a sad day indeed as British-born Australian singer and actress Olivia Newton-John has passed away. When the actress was diagnosed with cancer in 1992, she went on to become an advocate for cancer research. She even established her charity, the Olivia Newton-John Foundation, which has raised millions of pounds to support research. Olivia Newton’s philanthropic efforts in the field were recognized by Queen Elizabeth, who honored her with a damehood on the 2020 New Year’s Honours list.
The hospital that runs the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne – which was opened after the star’s campaigning, has issued a statement saying how Olivia encouraged, inspired, and supported” staff and patients every day. Olivia Newton passed away peacefully at her California ranch as she was surrounded by family and friends.

Musical celebs, including Kylie Minogue, called Olivia an inspiration, while Dionne Warwick called Newton-John, one of the nicest people she had the pleasure of recording and performing with. The actress was best known for playing Sandy in Grease, which went on to become one of the most successful film musicals ever made. Her Grease co-star John Travolta mouthed the death as he said how she made all of their lives so much better” while its director said: “What you see is what you get with her.”
Several celebs have paid their heartfelt tribute to the late actress as renowned television host Oprah Winfrey started how Olivia’s positivity was just infectious. The film’s director Randal Kleiser who has been friends with Newton-John for almost 40 years, said how the actress never changed and was always exactly the way everyone imagined her. Olivia Newton-John’s big musical breakthrough came in 1971 when she released a track penned that was penned down by Bob Dylan, If Not For You. The track was a massive hit and reached number seven on the UK charts and later featured on an album of the same name.
