What Is Hell’s Paradise About?
Hell’s Paradise centers around a ninja assassin named Gabimaru the Hollow. He had been captured during his last mission and sentenced to death. However, nothing was able to kill him. Swords and other weapons break into pieces instead of harming his superhuman body, and he walks through fire and burning oil-like air.
He did not want to live, he had no attachments left with this world, and his only wish was to die in peace. That was what he believed, that is, until the executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri was made in charge of him. According to her, Gabimaru had a single attachment that kept him alive- his love for his wife.
It was this love that made him fight against death subconsciously. She told him he still loved her and wanted to live for her sake and that there was a way for the two of them to live in peace; a chance to receive a pardon by the orders of the Shogunate.
The deal involved him landing on Shinsenkyo, a legendary realm recently discovered, and finding the elixir of life. It was a mysterious place that they knew next to nothing about. Anyone sent to the island till now had been turned into flowers and died.
The shogunate had now decided to send a group of death row convicts to try and achieve the impossible. Each one of them will be accompanied by a Yamada Asaemon executioner, whom they must return with in order to obtain the pardon.
And so, Gabimaru and his executioner Sagiri, along with many other criminals and Asaemon, set foot on the island of mystery and unknown in search of the elixir of life. They all knew this was a competition and the rest of the criminals were their enemies, along with whatever else the island had to offer.
