Amongst the latest meet of the straw hats, Luffy’s meeting with Yamato was one of the most amazing events that we have seen amidst of war in Wano. When it was announced that Kaido had a son, the fandom went crazy, thinking that Luffy would have another Kaido-like enemy to deal with; however, soon it was revealed that Yamato is a Female character and was never on good terms with her Kaido.

When Does Luffy Meet Yamato?
After the mention of Yamato before the start of the battle on Onigashima, fans were looking forward to the character hoping that it would present a big battle for the alliance and the straw hats but no one assumed that the character would be of this importance. After Yamato’s appearance around in the One Piece anime 972, she has been on a run from Kaido and the flying six.
The Flying Six were given the order to bring Yamato for the occasion of the Onigashima as Kaido had hidden plans for the latter, where he wanted Yamato to become the Shogun. But as a pure Oden fan, Yamato was determined to get Wano free from Kaido’s monarch.

After learning that Luffy was Ace’s brother, Yamato was pretty intent on meeting him while she was being chased by the Flying Six member. Luffy was planning to make his way to the top of Onigashime, where Kaido and Big Mom were present to fight her. In anime, it was One Piece Episode 991 titled “Enemy or Ally? Luffy and Yamato!” where we see Yamato meet Luffy.
The episode saw that Luffy wasn’t keen on meeting Yamato after learning that he was Kaido’s son; the former didn’t anticipate it to be an ally. Thus, while being chased by the Flying Six, Yamato caught up to Luffy and wanted to speak with them, but Luffy went to fight her as soon as he saw her; Yamato was able to deal with Luffy through her.

While the episode didn’t end up with an amazing meet, Yamato was reminded of her battle with Ace after exchanging a few blows with Luffy. As for the manga chapter, it was One Piece Chapter 983, where the same events followed in the chapter as the said episode.
Will Yamato Become A Straw Hat?
Oda had us pretty convinced that Yamato was indeed going to be the new straw hat right until the end of the Wano arc, and fans were ready to greet her with the same. However, it was, revealed that Yamato had the intention of healing the Wano country to get back on its feet and, thus, decided to wait a bit longer.
There is a high possibility that Yamato might make her appearance back and make a grand entrance into the straw hats, much like Jimbei in Wano. It is still a high possibility that fans might get to see Yamato become a straw hat one day.
