One of Tyler Perry‘s most loved sitcoms just made a comeback this week. With LaVan Davis as Curtis Payne, the BET show, House Of Payne has managed to create excitement within its audience by featuring glimpses of old characters in the new season. It was high time that these characters were brought back and the show now finally feels familiar.
Airing since 2007, House Of Payne is a family sitcom that has aired more than 300 episodes so far. The reason it has managed to stay relevant for so long is the fact that it is made entirely up of family-friendly humor but also features dark humor at times. It also represents the ups and downs that a huge family goes through as they come across all kinds of problems. This relatability makes House of Payne have a loyal audience throughout the years.
The series used to have a syndicated run, but ever since other options like TBS and BET came into existence, the show now mostly airs on these platforms. BET has taken up the airing of the series since its 7th season. Many spin-offs were made based on the Payne family, and the characters have also had appearances in other shows like Meet The Browns, Love Thy Neighbor, and Assisted Living.
House of Payne’s main cast has remained almost the same over the years, with a few new characters that got involved as the story progressed. The main characters like Janine and Jazmine were taken out of the show, but from the trailer and the first episode, it is confirmed that they’ll be a part of the new season.
An announcement of a new season being in production was made by the studio in February 2023, and the 12th installment of this Tyler Perry series finally premiered on March 22nd, 2023. It had a strong opening with a humorous storyline and the reappearance of beloved characters. As in all seasons, the new season will be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tyler Perry’s House of Payne: Season 12’s Cast
The Patriarch of the family, Curtis Booker T. Payne is played by LaVan Davis. LaVan first started with appearances in films and later moved on to TV series. His first-ever project was the movie Mindbenders. Other examples of Davis’ work include Madea Goes To Jail, Puff, Puff, Pass, and The Paynes. His character is portrayed as an overweight father who seems uncaring and immature at first, but in reality, cares a lot for those he loves. This is made apparent throughout all episodes of House of Payne.
When the show began in 2007, Curtis used to work as a fireman, but due to his age and health, he was forced to retire. This had a huge impact on him but he eventually managed to cope and expand his business to all kinds of other work. His loving yet witty wife, Ella Williams Payne is played by Cassi Davis. Cassi and LaVan may have the same last names, but they are not related to each other in real life.
Mississippi-born Cassi started her television career back in 1988 with a movie named School Daze. Although she’s widely recognized for her work on House of Payne, Cassi has worked in TV shows and movies like Meet The Browns, The Parkers, Moesha, and The Paynes. Davis has also been a part of most of the Madea movies.

Curtis’s nephew, Clarence C.J Payne is played by Allen Payne. After a terrible house fire burned their only home, C.J. moved his family to his uncle’s house and has stayed there ever since. A little-known fact is that C.J. was going to be a son of Payne but writers decided it would be better to make him his nephew. Throughout the seasons, C.J. and his wife, Janine had a strained relationship, which impacted their kids, Malik, Jazmine, Jayden, and Hayden.
Ever since they reconciled in the later seasons, the couple’s relationship has gotten better and they now live with their twin children Hayden and Jayden. C.J. works as a higher in the Public Relations department. His wife Janine is portrayed by Demetria McKinney. As her work increases in the newer seasons, her character began appearing less frequently on House of Payne.
Calvin, Payne’s only son, is played by Lance Gross. He has a very irresponsible character at the beginning of the show, but ever since he found out that he was going to be a father to Miranda’s child, he became serious with his life and began working at the same place as C.J. He has a child named Calvin Junior but since the relationship between Miranda and him grew cold, he divorces her in the newer seasons.
At present, Calvin Jr. lives with his mom Miranda, while Calvin has found a new family but still meets up with Junior whenever he can. Other cast members of House of Payne’s season 12 include China McClain as Jazmine Sierra Payne and Keshia Knight Pulliam as Miranda Lucas Payne. It is yet to be announced if Terayle Hill (Kaleb), Quin Walters (Laura), Ahmarie Holms (Lisa), Palmer Williams Jr. (Floyd Jackson), and Denise Burse (Claretha Jenkins) will be a part of the new season.
Tyler Perry’s House of Payne: Season 12’s Plot
House of Payne centers around the Payne family and everyone that gets involved in their lives. Curtis is the stereotypical father that hides his emotions and pretends to be immature just for the sake of his family. Deep inside, Curtis has always been the greatest father and was hurt when he couldn’t work for his family as she did before. As much as other members of the family claim they hate him, they all feel happy that Curtis exists.
The season starts with Curtis almost being killed by an explosion of his food truck. This leaves him traumatized and he starts doubting everyone when he finds out that faulty wiring was the reason behind the explosion. As paranoid as he is, Ella knows that Curtis himself could be the culprit behind the fatal incident. Meanwhile, in Calvin’s family, tensions arise between him and Calvin Junior when he finds out that he’s been getting involved in too many fights.

Miranda and he seem to be getting farther as well but it doesn’t affect Calvin as much as he finds a new love. He still cares for them deeply and does his best to be there for his son whenever he can. By the end of the first episode, he realizes that all Calvin wants is to spend more time with his father. He decides to have a conversation with Miranda about the time he will be spending with Junior.
At C.J.’s side, Janine returns home to find that the Twins have gotten obsessed with new technology. She’s surprised to see Janine walk in with a new hairstyle and a cheerful personality. The family seems to have been reunited to some extent but Janine and Jazmine will continue to have recurring roles on House of Payne.

The producers have not confirmed the number of episodes season 12 of House of Payne would have, but they can be anywhere around 20-22 episodes judging by its previous seasons. Each episode of the Tyler Perry show lasts for about 24-25 minutes. Release dates of the first 10 episodes will be:
